York / Rochdale

Been to both grounds as a Hartlepools Fan and both have a cracking set of Fans who deserve EFL Football and indeed both their Teams merit promotion this Season... ...personally would like to see York City Promoted as Champions....They play exciting football and as the stats testify, bang the goals in...Beat Pools 5-3 last Season when I was there and as I say their Fans are sound.......Rochdale too have some decent fans, Pools beat them 2-1 with a terrific Free Kick last I was down there and their Fans took it in good spirit although like Hartlepools, they too strive to be back in the EFL.

Best outcome for me this Season both promoted.....Darrell Clarke in at Hartlepools and both Pools and Carlisle promoted back to the EFL next Season.

Ha'way the Lads...Up the Pools and Ha'way the Mariners!!.......Shields, Pools and the Heed in the National League should be fun. 😎
Yep. Want to see York, Carlisle and Hartlepool back in the football league. Hopefully South Shields win the league and play National League next yest as well, and then hope Darlo sneak into the playoffs (or Scarborough, if not). Spennymoor can't make the playoffs now I don't think.

Darlo!?!?!?!?***!?!?!?!......Oh my Word..." I was born under a Poolie Star.....Do you know where hell is...Hell is in Darlo!!!!"

Only joking, Yes it's great to see Northern Clubs doing okay....Darlo should make the play offs but alas a step too far for Spenny!!

Mathematically, Spennymoor can but it would take a bizarre set of results. If Darlington can win at Telford tomorrow, they have a straightforward home game last day.

In the National League, it would certainly be good if a couple of northern teams went up, given that two may well go down.

It should be 3 up/3 down as the top of the national league isn't any worse than the bottom of league 2. Since they moved to 2 promotion/relegation spots there hasn't been a side going straight back down in their first season after promotion, but they will need league 2 clubs to vote for it which will never happen.
Unless the National league becomes league 3, with the same Efl money and coverage it won't happen, & i also think being a football League club is something to be cherished, & not just a run of the mill promotion between leagues.

Want Carlisle to win the playoffs. Want the more Northern sides to do well.

It's ridiculously harsh though that only 1 goes up automatically, and a team in 2nd with a load of points doesn't go up. Happened to York last year.
Yeah. Only as Rochdale deserve it , as York should have done last year.

Fingers crossed York don't slip up.

Its utterly ridiculous that one of them will have to go again in the playoffs. The track record of the promoted sides speaks for itself, they typically do really well in League Two. Time for 3 up 3 down.
To be fair if its 4 up 4 down between leagues One and Two then why not the same for the national league?

The English pyramid is (rightly) held up as example to the world on how to organise your football but we have got into a bit of a mess with the promotion and plays offs.

PL to Championship

3 up 3 down, play offs 3rd to 8th (6 teams) - From next season

Championship to League One

3 up 3 down, play offs 3rd to 6th (4 teams)

League One to League Two

4 up 4 down, play offs 4th to 7th (4 teams)

League Two to National League

2 up 2 down, play offs 2nd to 7th, (6 teams)

No consistency anywhere and a bit of a mess.

I think the League One to League Two thing is like that because it always has been. As you say, no consistency. Playoffs, at least, should have the same format through the EFL.

This is a prime case for the football regulator in my opinion.

Gateshead? Always overlooked in these discussions but the Heed are the North Easts most consistent non league club over the last 50 years.
In some weird way, it might be better for the long term if the team finishing 7th win the play offs (currently Southend 30 pts or so back) as it will shine a massive light on the issue. If York and Rochdale both go up they will just say 'Whats the problem? The system works'.

It needs changed ASAP.
