York (A) phases

The one and only time I went their was also a preseason friendly, under reid, might have been 98 in preparation for the 98/99 champion season.

Cannot find nowt about a friendly then, just a cup game so it must have been that
Yeah we did. It was one of the first games post-PO final and Micky Gray played with his hair bleached bright blond and, I think, at right back. We played in the blue kit with red and white hoop. Seem to remember we won 2-1 (??) and Mullin played CM. A sunny midweek evening.

Edit - actually I think it was League Cup 1st Round.

I went the last time we played them. Think it was under Johnson pre season? Tidy ground from the inside.

Soulless around the ground, IIRC you walk through a leisure centre as you walk around the ground.

Canny hike from the train station too.

Didn't Dichio score with his backside in that game? The terrace was way overcrowded and was quite scary, accident waiting to happen.
Aye because our lads climbed over the walls as too many were queuing . Some ended up on the roof on the mainstand side. We had all the opposite side and the overcrowding behind the goal where pitch invasion occurred.
In Stokoe's day73/74 we took all four sides of the ground, it was heaving. score 1-4 . They played in maroon. The locals still talk about the Sunderland fans as hooligans to this day.

I dont recall it being that bad that year. Was a full away end but nowt alarming. 10 years earlier was a different matter altogether though. A lot more packed onto that terrace with tickets being reused and a fence up. Game got held up a bit as loads spilled onto pitch.
