Years following the lads

62 years for me. As a youngster I was fascinated by how good Neil Martin was in the air. Favourite memories have to be the 73 cup run and in particular the Man City replay, but what a last year we've had. Can't wait for next season to start.
I met Neil Martin a couple of seasons back, the perfect gent and we had a nice chat about his time here and how much the game has changed.

41 years. First game Liverpool at home, abandoned. Happy times
We had Liverpool all over in that first half too. Think our players had better footwear or something. Pitch looked fine from the Roker, but was apparently like concrete. Stood in the clock stand paddock at the night game replay. Grobbellar stood most of the game 35 yards of his line doing handstands n wotnot, don't think he touched the ball all game.

A question for those with a good few years under their belts, 73 aside, would you say last season was your best??
As I have said, I am 42 years into my journey, and I would say looking back, it was probably my best yet, beating them home and away, seeing a late winner away to Chelsea, and qualifying for Europe was something I thought I would never see in my time

Hands down my best season, but my God I did watch some sublime football under Reedy.

Got my first shirt in 1997 and always supported us but became obsessed in 2007 after the Chopra v Tottenham. So either 29 years or 19 for me. I only really got into football during France 98

Forty odd.

First game watched was being plonked down in front of the telly for the Milk Cup final.

First live match was the McMenemy season. First match i probably enjoyed was thanks to Denis Smith and Marco.

First season ticket was the move to the SoL.

I never thought I'd be more proud than the Reid team, but the lads who took us from League 1, through to last season's successes have given me the most joy in my footballing life. Can't wait to see what comes next.

What are we all upto years wise following the lads? I do appreciate that some may have just joined the journey and that is cool. We are all chosen at different times of our lives...

Was just wondering

42 years for me, and just to add, I never thought I would ever see Europe. I thought the Reid years were great, this is something different
Me Da took me in 66 or 67 i think, took a couple of years before going regular so a canny while now.

If I try and tap into my memories of watching Reid’s team in 99/2000 the football was more scintillating, the wonderment of our stadium only a couple of years old, SKP highest goalscorer in the land, some top class professionals.
Second at Xmas I think.

That was probably still the peak football wise.

However the wonderment of the journey from near bankruptcy in the third, the play offs, to 7th in the prem to taking points off the best teams in the world, to buying a complete new team having come up as championship also rans …. It’s a bigger achievement to do what happened last season when you take everything into account.

Difficult as context is different but I think the last year takes some beating

But they are the big 3 moments 73, 99/00 and 25/26

First game for me was Southampton away in 1966 . Just after England won the World Cup . We got beat 3-1 but thanks to my dad , who was a massive lads fan, I was hooked for life! So 60 years for me.

The Reid era was exciting but somehow this feels different. What's occured since the head of Ballard has totally changed this club from top to bottom. Some of the games the season gone were up there with the best weve performed at this level and there also feels that it doesn't stop there tirelessly working behind the scenes on and off the field to finally establish this club.

Like a few on here I have been supporting the lads a very long time, through thick and thin. My first match was the home debut of the King Charlie Hurley in 1957. I was 7 years old - so since then its been 69 years. 1973 was a great year but the last season, starting with the semi final goal from Dan Ballard, the fantastic wembley win 1 year ago and the resultant 7th place finish and European qualification has exceeded that. The team spirit, togetherness on and off the pitch is so refreshing. The club is in the best state, in my opinion, that it has ever been. Cannot wait for next season.
