Yann M'vila - target or not?

 such utter nonsense, I give up like, how you can sit through this season and post this

Some fans always pick on academy lads for some reason and criticise them more, its mental.
It's got nothing to do with this season that's why :lol: Put the recruitment to one side for a second and look at him standalone in this division. He is a limited footballer. The recruitment should've addressed the issue of a lack of experience but not by keeping Gooch around any longer. The perfect time for him to go was after the playoff final on a high note. Don't let how poor the recruitment has been cloud your judgement on Gooch's ability. He didn't even stand out in league one man

At the time letting Gooch go was the correct decision imo, for a player who had played in the premier he was horrendous. Couldn’t lift his head up when running with the ball or crossing, most of his crosses were just hit & hope. A liability when defending also. Now however, after slagging him like that I have to concede that he would have been of use in some capacity this season. More to do with poor recruitment & injuries than anything else though.

We got a million for Gooch. Committed, heart like a lion, but too attacking to be a defender, too defensive to be an attacker. We would have forever blamed him for things, he was our favourite scapegoat. Stoke are where they are in small part because it was the right deal for us.

Why not? The higher level that any player has played should count good for them in regards experience.
Not really. There’s loads of players who’ve made a PL appearance, weren’t at that level and then had successful careers at a lower level in their own right without being judged as having “played in the PL” He played about 10 games as a very young player too

I completely agree, it was sad to see him go but the right decision at the time.

But shockingly, we have replaced him with worse (but potentially better...) players. He would have been in the starting line up over the past 6 weeks with Roberts/Clarke out especially.

Same with Mowbray, right decision at the time, but replaced with shite, then simply with whatever we have left to throw in.

He's a very very limited footballer and has been for years. Just because we've signed shite doesn't mean he's suddenly got better. Love the lad to bits but let's not sugar coat it he wasn't a very good winger and is a very limited full back. Jack Clarke absolutely terrorised him at our place.
Let's not forget he was MOTM playing Full Back against the promoted Burnley last season. He is limited you're right, he's an average player who has good and bad games, he'd have played a part this season had we kept him though.

First start for WBA tonight. Still looks a class act. Sat at the base of the midfield, tackled, headed, received, moved it well and with pace, looked to pass forward and done so well. Hasn’t been particularly tested but doesn’t look obviously immobile or leggy.

In short, he’d have easily done a job for us in a position we’re desperate for options in.

Don’t man, I’m pissed off enough as it is.

However we have a bunch of clowns who manage us and m villa despite every Sunderland fan knowing how good he is, the stats will say he's not.
Plus he wants more than minimum wage.

I bet his salary is modest as well. I’d reckon his stats will be good tonight. He’s class. It’s just the way he moves around the park, constantly moving into space to receive and when he plays the ball it’s hit with proper purpose and intent.

Elite ability, even in the latter years of a career, still shines through. Really wish we’d signed him

I bet there's plenty on here wouldn't mind being stuck on the 'minimum wage' our players get.

Sounds like he's absolutely unreal. Who'd have thought?
The opposition are really poor and it’s been like a training exercise second half, they’ve totally controlled the middle of the park, so it’s arguably not the best game to be properly objective but just in terms of quality and composure, it’s absolutely still there.

He’s basically playing the Evans role but with more quality.

As I type he’s just sprayed an inch perfect diagonal. Class
