Its professional sports ffs, they only thing they did wrong was getting caught. In football if a player goes down to win a penalty and the match, little is said, and he certainly isn't banned for a season, why should cricket be any different ? Countries pay groundsmen to prepare "home friendly conditions", players appeal for imaginary nicks etc., the days of batsmen walking etc., are long gone. The professional game is no longer a contest between gentlemen, winning and loosing with its financial implications can be huge on both individuals and teams, rules will be stretched

Not quite the same thing. Was discussed at length on the Tuffers and Vaughan podcast and then again by Flintoff on his podcast - diving in football is more like not walking in cricket - the phrase used was 'gamesmanship' rather than out and out cheating which ball tampering is.

Do we really want to go down the route of likening football and cricket though?
