Would anyone from this PL Lineup get into our current team?

I think we'll defo beat that points total. And yeah you can see why.

Our best XI this season is superior in every position, imo/

The only team to really compare to this seasons in my lifetime is the Reid team. I think our current team is better than any team in our last prem spell and we'll prove that by both points total and position.
I think the wingers are a bit better mind.

Assuming they were all still the same age and 'talent' they were at the time. This was our relegation season.
Pickford, Cattermole, Khazri & Defoe all would be useful to our current squad. Defoe & Pickford would challenge for a place in the XI.

If you want names from the West Ham team it would be Fonte, Ayew & Cresswell that stand out. Also Kouyate & Carroll would make our squad. Oh and a very young Dec Rice

I loved Lee Cattermole. But when we have Xhaka, Sadiki, Diarra, Le Fee, Rigg and Geertruida, he simply doesn't offer us anything in midfield.

As much as its a privilege to watch Brobbey kick the shit out of centre backs each week, he's scored 6 in 25. So aye, Jermain gets in.

I think O'Shea would get games for us, but his legs were 'going, nearly gone' by that season.

Pickford v Roefs is a really, really tough choice. You'd be happy with either, so I'll cop out of that one.

Khazri would get in, but that says more about us now than him. His set pieces would be a good fit with Ballard too.

That's it though.

So only 2 certainties.

People saying no to Pickford is a mad one like. He's in the prime of his career and has proven to be world class over a number of years. England and Everton's best ever keeper. Roefs has had a fantastic first PL season but he's not on Pickfords level yet
They're saying no to Pickford based on the rules as to the age he and player he was at that time, not the player that's in the prime of his career now.

Only reason it's a discussion is because we know how Pickford develops, but based on Roefs weve seen this season and Pickford we'd seen that season, then it has to be Roefs.

Yes he was. And no, we didn’t sign him from Carlisle. We signed him from a club where he made 400 appearances and won every major trophy on offer domestically and internationally. He then made 200 appearances for us in the top flight and captained us in a cup final.

It’s borderline insanity to suggest he wasn’t a better player than O’Nien man!
The two relegation seasons O’Shea was pretty poor. Not his fault our other options were worse but O’Nien today and that O’Shea is a much closer competition, I think I’d take O’Nien but obviously overall career wise there’s no comparison.

Prime O’Shea was a significantly superior footballer to Luke O’Nien. Haway man.

Cattermole barely played in the first relegation (no coincidence we went down?) and was finished as a player at a decent level thereafter.
Prime John O'Shea, yes. But I'd argue Prime John O'Shea never actually played for us. I think his reputation has been enhanced since he left because of how much other dross we had at the time. I think he cared and was a good servant, but error prone and slow.

Given the way we play out from the back, I'd pick current O'Nien over him every time.

If we going off how those players were at that exact moment in time, ability wise, then JOS and Defoe only, for me.

If it came down to Pickford in 2016 Vs Roefs in 2026, then it’s robin all day long.

I agree he would be far down the pecking order. But he definitely would have offered us something.

For all our options we have one genuine DM, Xhaka. Hence why I also mentioned Kouyate who played DM. If we had a Cattermole this season, he would have started games from December - middle of March & would have been in pretty much every match day squad.

We've seen Diarra, Sadiki & Geertruida play DM this season and none look particularly comfortable. Not that i'm blaming them, as their best positions are clearly elsewhere.
