The Great MES
Striker
It was worse imo. Bairstow was naive and foolish but he wasn't trying to gain an advantage, where on a Mankad the batters halfway down the wicket.

The Aussies just want a little love dude.Have nowt said against mick Foley mind![]()
Square leg wasn’t even looking. Disgusting from the AussiesThe umpires were as guilty as bairstow tbh. It's as if once bairstow had ducked, everyone just moved on. The umpires shouldn't have moved until the ball was actually dead. They are moving before Carey even has a proper hold on it. It's snidey but bairstow is still an idiot for no awareness. Doesn't look behind, doesn't tap his bat in, just a little kick at the crease and just wanders away. Meanwhile Ben stokes has his back towards everything as he is getting back into his crease waiting for over to be called
But he was stumped, not run out. No batsman who is stumped is seeking to gain any advantage. It’s a hard lesson to learn but Bairstow is a pro and should be more switched on. I’ve kept wicket in the past and done the same as Carey, as have most keepers at some point or other. It’s usually done to pick up on carelessness from the batsman. You must be logged on to see media items
I’d tend to agree, atleast with a mankad a batsman is gaining an advantage by leaving his ground - Bairstow wasn’t attempting a run today, there was no intent whatsoever to gain an advantage.
Would you be OK with England mankading Smith, Warner and Labashaugne next test? But he was stumped, not run out. No batsman who is stumped is seeking to gain any advantage. Well a different situation in my book, personally I’d like a warning first, but I’d shed no tears if it happened!Would you be OK with England mankading Smith, Warner and Labashaugne next test?
As said a mankad isn’t as bad because at least it’s getting out a batsman out who is seeking an advantage. If you have no issue about yesterday you should have less of an issue with a mankad with or without warning.Well a different situation in my book, personally I’d like a warning first, but I’d shed no tears if it happened!
Particularly after the new clarification that you can’t fake complete your bowling action and then do it, I see nothing at all wrong with a Mankad. You have to commit a pretty egregious false start to get caught these days, and you don’t deserve sympathy in my view.As said a mankad isn’t as bad because at least it’s getting out a batsman out who is seeking an advantage. a Mankad is shit. In local cricket ive seen bowlers trying it more often and just taking a chance that the player just drags his bat out at the last second even if he is in the crease. Its the easiest problem in the world to solve at international level by declaring one short for any run scored when a non striker leaves the crease early. It would make it pointless for a player to do so and make mankading unnecessary.Particularly after the new clarification that you can’t fake complete your bowling action and then do it, I see nothing at all wrong with a Mankad. Edit: Also I don’t think many have NO issue about yesterday, but it was still avoidable with a bit more awareness. This lot aren’t your best mates Jonny. They’ll take every underhand chance.
Exactly. He was in his crease after the ball had been played and was settled 8n the keepers gloves. Dead ball.Carey threw it before he left the crease. He was basically counting on JB doing a repeat of the same stupid behaviour he'd been doing all over. And JB obliged.
So you play all of your shots from the crease do you? Of course you're trying to gain an advantage, by playing the ball nearer where it pitches. No batsman who is stumped is seeking to gain any advantage.

Maybe what Australia could have done is warned Bairstow before doing it
Why would they bother? It's not like a mankad where he was trying to gain an advantage.
They saw an opportunity to get him out for free so they did, if they warned him then what would they gain?
