Anyone watch?

I was a bit disappointed TBH. Although it was always going to be a concise history of a huge event.

The history nerd in me was glad to see the footage showed the correct equipment for the time period.

Not as good as ITV's The World at War, which still sets the benchmark.
 

I was looking forward to this. Started watching the first episode and was a lot shorter than I thought. Fell asleep halfway through 🤣
 
Watch a couple, very much in the world at War vein of how its told, but just felt a bit shite with the modern historians rather than the eye witness accounts from people that were actually involved on large and small ways.

If nothing else it demonstrates how lucky we are that world at War was made when a lot of the people were still alive, and nee fuckers better than olivier at narrating that sort of content and an honourable mention to Eric porter for the supplementary episodes too

Still OK as a documentary but nothing groundbreaking

Listened to this podcast this morning. Absolutely unbelievable tale of the WW2 SAS told by Damien Lewis (who knows a thing or two about the history of the SAS), well worth a listen.
 
It's total pants. Literally skimming over op dynamo the battle of Britain and not even a single mention of the Hood Bismarck encounter or the Bruneval raid. We have ways podcast took 8 yes 8 episodes to cover the sinking of the Bismarck alone. Hang on tho there's another 17 episodes to welcome the American input and for Tom to tell us how they took on everyone and beat everyone all by themselves without any help from us plucky Brits

I think he covered this in one of his receht books, if he mentions which one - can't remember myself - it was worth buying. Sorry to be vague but I always have a WWII book going so they can blur into one!

I haven't seen it yet, but what I'm seeing online isn't sounding great. Apparently the Nazi rise to power is skimmed over and British, Canadian, NZ and Australian armies are just described as 'Allies' rather than singled out.
