Woakes - announces international retirement

Some of the criticism has been over the top, state of the pitches and this batch of balls have gone against him

His batting seems to have gone though and Carse is more of an 8 than him now

One thing I would say is that we tend to win a lot of games with Woakes in the side. His bowling and batting may not have been of his usual standard so far this series but write him off at your peril I reckon. He’s a competitor, has a lot of experience now and still got a fair bit to offer imo.

Think he's done after this series either way like.. didn't think he'd go to Australia.
Given the series hes had, they really cant take him to Oz, he will have had no cricket to play (if hes even fit) and were already gonna be carrying Stokes, Archer, Wood.
But he's the future or England bowling, that's why they keep picking him, they'll still take him even if he misses the first few Ashes games

The problem is mate, he's 36 and that's ancient for a seemer and he's looked past it this series (although conditions have been un-English this summer).. imo like ;)

And fitter.

I could understand asking Jimmy to step aside if he was scraping the barrel but he was in the test team on merit.

He's averaging 26 for Lancs this season!
Not really any new up and coming bowlers, they get into the team and get injured or play one game and then dropped

They clearly had to grow a bowling group for the Ashes.

But, you know, Brisbane is a day night game, so you probably want to pick one traditional English seamer, Woakes is surely out and there's no experience of winning down there left...

Sam Cook? Or... one last dance?!

MCG has been relayed and there is plenty movement there as well.
