I think that would have happened anyway with or without the IPL.

And it’s a convenient factor to blame the IPL because posters on here don’t like it and I don’t think it’s anywhere near as much as a factor you make out

Like I say as long as it stays with the current window, I personally think it’s absolutely great that 104 thousand people turn up to watch a cricket final.

Like everything it’s a question of balance and having the worlds best cricket players getting together for a T20 competition is good imo as it giving cricket fans what they want!!

You're just ignoring the fact that it's not giving ALL cricket fans that they want. The majority of Indians may love it and there may be big fans of it around the world but there will be far more people outside of India who aren't fussed by it and don't like the dominance it has over the rest of the schedule.

You also ignore that I have said that the boards themselves are also to blame. It's not just down to the IPL. The IPL is a big factor though as its got to the point where the boards have had to bow down to it and work around it. The ECD tried as long as they could with KP as they could see where things were going but have eventually give in.

You claim that people are over exaggerating the impact it has worldwide but I think you massive underestimate it. And I am far from a hater of it.

You claimed that those fans were enjoying cricket more than anyone else, a claim I find stupid and pretty offensive.

I think the point of the thread was to state that the schedule has become too much, which he has and think we can all agree on that.

What should be happening is criticizing boards for that schedule, but once again it comes back to the IPL.

The current one day series where we finished one last Sunday and started another on the Tuesday was down the ECB and not the IPL.

There is room for the current IPL and then work around the rest of the years schedule and be sensible.

Especially the English calendar as international cricket was very rarely played that early in the year when the IPL was on.

England players used to have to leave the IPL early to prepare for tests, so you're wrong there.

From here on the IPL will finish in the first week of June, so we're well into the English domestic season.

You know that lively series we've just had v New Zealand? Can't have that anymore as the IPL would have overlapped with the first two tests.

We usually play Tests in late May and June, can't do that now. So do we just tell Sri Lanka, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan or whoever else we usually play at that time of the year to get stuffed? Or do we play them later? And then what do we do with the marquee series of the summer, just push it back a bit?

We've already had to sacrifice our 50 over competition and have marginalised our county championship to the spring and autumn. So what now? We still going to stop everything for the 16.4? There's another 5/6 weeks gone.

You can ignore it all you want and be happy with watching IPL in the middle of the morning on the telly, enjoying cricket more than anyone else ever has before, but most English cricket fans aren't.

The streaming and tv rights have just been sold for 5 billion, putting it up there with the NFL and Premier League as best sold sports events worldwide so think it’s fair to say it’s poplar worldwide.

It stands to reason it would be as T20 has taken off last 10/15 years, so of course the best competition with the best players will prove popular

But of course I agree like anything else they has to be a cut off point and agree no need to extend it further

And that's for 74 matches.

It's 84 in 2024 finishing 1st week of June, then 94 matches from 2025, so probably the 2nd week of June from then.

So no, we can't
