Will the likes of Gardiner or Spellman get a chance?

Was looking at the u21s and the u18s, and was genuinely surprised at the number of forwards we have within 2 or 3 years of the ages of the first 11, and yet for all the goals Gardiner has scored Vs the amount Hemir has for the u21s, he's never really mentioned when people are clamouring for the likes of Mayender to be given a go.

Do you think there is anyone amongst our young forwards who will eventually make it into the first team that isn't a 'one for the future' that speakman has signed?
As the manager? aye, but not as a player, my legs are 50 years old 🙂

If we get to the last 4 or 5 games say, and we can't make the play offs, would hope some of the lads from 18s and 21s get run outs.
It would be nice to be able to do that, but if we have no chance of play-offs with a few games to go, Beale will be hanging on by his finger nails. I can't see him wanting to hoy kids in, unless the overlords tell him to of course

No, the model doesn't allow for too much local talent.
If they haven't been given a go in a season where we haven't had a striker then they never will.
Apart from Neil and Patterson who are virtual ever presents. Not to mention Rigg who has had more minutes than any 16 year old would ever expect

But aye, "the model" doesnt allow it....

We need an experienced striker, so let's give the even younger, less experienced kids a go

Does an experienced goalscorer guarantee goals?
Remember when Robbie Fowler burst onto the scene at the top level? And then Michael Owen replaced him.
Besides we keep getting told than experienced strikers are unavailable at this level so the next best thing is to create one. Worked with Gary Rowell.

If he is called Bellingham or has been signed by Speakman he will get a chance, otherwise very doubtful.

This is basically why I wonder if the model stops non mini marquee (the likes of Hemir, where he played for a big club before coming to us) getting a chance. They may be 'doing it' but haven't got the pedigree to make them eventually saleable.

To be fair Gardiner is 20 and Spellman is 21, they're older than some of the lads playing in the first team.

Would we bother bringing the likes of Hemir and Mayenda in if these lads in the U21s were fancied?

Gardiner and Spellman are both over 20 now, have hardly figured if at all and both their contracts are up in the Summer.

In fact they are two of about 14 players all in their early 20s whose contracts are up either this Summer (mainly) or next Summer who haven't made an impact.

Chances are they will all be released after the go and prove us wrong speech.

Think Gardiner is on loan at Blyth now. Any of us regulars at Hetton know he's a better goalscorer than Hemir though.
Could there be something in this 'model' where there's little interest in developing local homegrown players though as there's nothing in it for Speakman's own CV
