I've done it a few times myself with work. It's not an hour unless they've got much faster recently and more to the point it's unlikely that players would live in London and travel every day to play for Southampton unless they like very early mornings . As I say they might choose Southampton ahead of us but unless they're thick it won't be proximity to London

I used to live near Winchester, which is north of Southampton and work in Sutton, which is sarf of London. It was a lot more than an hour's drive, maybe an hour at 4 in the morning. At one point I also used to work in London, at which point I took the chuffer. It took me 2 hours' travel at each end of the day, that's 4 hours a day. Would have been nearer 5 had I lived in Southampton. To say Southampton is 'near' London is as gross a distortion of the truth as I've ever come across on this board. Takes a good four hours on the train from London to Southampton iirc. Only a 30 minute or so car journey. Hell the footballer could even have a brisk 5 minute jog from his London home to Southampton.
 
Its pretty straightforward.

Pay them more and geography won't matter.

However, if any London club is willing to offer the same as us we will miss out.

Just the way it is.
 
Can see this rumbling on for a few weeks. If only Zenit come in, can see him deciding to come to us for Premier League exposure for a bigger club to come in. Could be win/win for us.
