Why the hate campaign against EVs?

Facebook is full of anti-EV memes that are gleefully shared around (and generally lies), Katie Hopkins is posting videos saying they “weigh 3 times the average car” amongst other laughable bollocks, and there seems to be a general dislike/mistrust of them from the man in the street.
It is fear of the unknown, a Luddite mentality if you will? Here’s something that’s similar to what you already have but cleaner, quieter and generally better, yet you want to burn it with fire?

Electric cars are f@cking EVIL mate

They are not environmentally friendly.

Oil producers losing out on revenue, they promote disinformation via social media using bot farms.
Behind the seemingly innocuous meme there’ll be rich people afraid of losing revenue

I’m not on bellendbook , however at the moment , IMO anyway they are way too expensive and the infrastructure simply isn’t there . Yes I know it will change but will be few years yet
Just to say my situation

We needed a smaller car for round the doors - day to day driving. Just bought a 6 year old Leaf. The spec is excellent, its really nice inside - perforated heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, climate control that I can control from my phone (so the car is warm in winter before I get in, and all the ice has melted). Bose stereo, decent satnav. The specs from a much higher level of car frankly.
About 80 miles range. I can charge it from a 3 pin standard plug over night.

I don't *need* any charging infrastructure. I've got somewhere to plug it in.
But if I do need to plug it in, there's chargers all over the place. Was in Wetherby services the other day, and there were 3 rows of them. The "Quick" chargers will charge the car from 20 to 80% in about 20 minutes, basically the time to have a piss and get a pasty from Greggs while I google the bus fair back to Peterlee.

I can switch to a tariff thats under 10p per unit overnight if I wanted to. So that's about 80 miles for £2.
Or the quick charger would probably cost about 60p per unit, so that 20 to 80% top up would cost £7.20 for 48 miles.

You say there's no infrastructure, but I haven't even looked yet, and I know that both the Lidl and the Aldi in Peterlee both have chargers, and so does the Leisure centre. That's at least 3, in bloody Peterlee!

Mind, if you live in a block of flats, its a different story, of course.

I can't see a time when they are the main transport of choice unless they somehow come up with some amazing way to get around the obvious problems they currently face.

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking mate?

They are differently bad though. 2 of the main issues are emissions and brake dust. Both of those almost entirely go away with EVs.

You move from burning fossil fuels in the middle of an urban area to using power made largely in rural places (and that power is a mix of gas, nuclear and renewables which is far better). They will make a massive difference to city air pollution, which accounts for a hell of lot of health problems.

The rare earth minerals are obviously a problem, nobody is trying to suggest otherwise.

£7200. 24khw, 90% battery health. Tekna spec with 30k on the clock from a local EV specialist over in Durham.
I'm really impressed - considering my last 2 cars were a heavily modified 230 bhp RX8, and a then a sensible 190bhp Exeo. Its mad, but the speed off the line is amazing as it doesn't have gears, and all the power is available instantly, so you are up to full speed increadibly quick. Its bizarre.
