Why do people support Newcastle

I dont fanatically support them but i wont damn them either, atleast not until we are well ahead of them in the league. I remember at the start of that fluke season they had, i absolutely pummeled them with shit about how good we looked, how bad they are etc etc. I dont think i can take getting bitten in the arse again like that.

Now i wont join in the wankfest until we have well and truly eclipsed them in points and its safe to do so without a slice of humble pie.

Nail on head. For me it's about not tempting fate, pride before a fall and all that. Clough once said "Say nowt, win it, then talk your bloody head off".

I just think that when we get too cocky, the football gods take us down a peg or two........

so to summarise it's a self defence mechanism. just f***ing wish we could be arrogant once, and for it come off - like what it often does for those twats

The thousands locked out must have been furious with so many empty seats.

But getting onto the main point, there are just so many pessimists on here it gets ridiculous at times. Some on here only tend to see the positives in our rivals (not just Newcastle) and the negatives in safc.
It is clear to see that Newcastle are in real danger this season of having major struggles but the likes of Sky Sports listing Newcastle as potential challengers for Europe doesn't help. I can't see where they get that from. They are a poor team that are going to struggle this year.

I think you are right. If a supporter obsessively moans about everything to do with their club, it becomes a confirmation of the self loathing to become convinced that hated rivals are somehow better. Very unhealthy.

Newcastle are shite, we at least have a modernising strategy, FTM.

We're like Clint Eastwood tbf. Only a 21 year-old version.

Men want to be us, women want to love us.

As I (and others) have said b4, the situation in N'cassel looks woorying for them, agreeable to us - They do have some very good players - but the mix between players, manager, owner emits a foul smell. Long may it continue.

Decent aye, but very good  This is what the op is referring to i think

They simply dont have any very good players at all.

This is exactly what the OP is getting at, they have a a couple of decent players in their firs 11 and that's it but still people on here feel inferior to them or are living in mixed areas and are afraid of upsetting their nearest and dearest.

Aye mate, wish the mag suck ups would just fck off and support them if they think and speak so highly of them.

That club is a massive car crash waiting to happen and i cant wait for it to happen  Hate the bastards

I know we are supposed to hate and deride them - but looking beyond that, Krul, Coloccini, HBA, Cabaye, Sissoko or Remy can be at least described as good - the veriness is the debateable part. I wouldn't rate them as highly as Louise Taylor (see her comments about Santon and Hatem) - but then I'm no way an expert on our beloved neighbours.

That car crash is getting nearer and I can't wait for the meltdown, no doubt the mag arse lickers on here will disappear for a while or come up with excuses for them.

I think it's because we are waiting to see how things will work out with Di Canio. The mags are going to have a bad season, even if they sign someone in this window I think they are going to struggle. We have the potential to do well if Di Canio can get the players to click as a team but it could still all go wrong and we end up scrapping at the bottom of the table with the mags. The last time people were confident of doing better than them they beat us 5-1 and qualified for Europe the following season, so I reckon people are just hoping and biding their time for it all to go wrong for them again.

........

Only 49,000 there for their first home game of a new season, so that's another myth blown.
378 short of 50,000 and care to explain the myth and who keeps banging on about it. Everybody knows at one point that there was a long waiting list, but that was before the ground was extended. I doubt there is a waiting list now. Crowds have dipped but our first game after a howking against Man City, one crocked and possibly going to jail signing. the Kinnear shitstorm etc still saw us at 94.7% capacity.

I'll concede that Fulham aren't the best travelers but your first game, with generally optimistic outlook, nurerous players in, ticket deals saw you at 89.6% capacity.[DOUBLEPOST=1377426453][/DOUBLEPOST]

I read that three times before realising you said 'love' and not 'loathe'.

Don't want to get drawn into this but it's pretty much the away fans making the difference in this particular example.[DOUBLEPOST=1377427977][/DOUBLEPOST]

How many did west ham bring?

What ticket deals are you talking about?

Unfortunately Fulham brought about 500, if we had played west ham and they'd brought the numbers you expect we wouldn't be far off the same percentage. Don't try and cover it up, how many times do we hear about the 55,000 screaming jawdees? Your players and manager paddle it out all the time.

Over the last few weeks there's been no end of people, on here, supporting the theory that Newcastle are much better placed than Sunderland and will 'comfortably' finish above us.

I've tried to find the logic in this, I really have, but I'm still puzzled.

Newcastle, as far as I can see, are in for a long hard battle against relegation like they were last season.
Before I posted this thread I had a rare look at one of their forums to see what they're saying and the doom & gloom makes this place look like a haven of unfettered delirious joy.

They can't score, have players who don't want to play for them, a manager who's talking crazy and a team who've barely managed an attack this season ........... they remind me of the Mags in the play off match when they invaded the pitch, charged around a bit then hit a force field on the half way line

The Mags are saying that they're shite, the players are shite, the manager's shite and the club is shite ......everything is shite.

So why do so many people seem to automatically defend them on here ........... not a criticism of people, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I'm just genuinely baffled.
When Newcastle have been good I've accepted it like when Robson was there and looked capable of winning something.

But I just don't understand why people, Sunderland supporters, believe Newcastle are so much better than Newcastle supporters do.

probably all Mags

Would much rather have our team and set up right now than theirs. We are a work in progress, they're a work in demolition.
