Why do I love the German national anthem so much?

The decisive contribution of the Red Army on the Eastern front, in terms of putting the Wehrmacht through a meat grinder, with complete disregard for their own losses, and pressing westwards to Berlin, is usually ignored.
What a load of bollocks, ignored by who?
Yup. The Red Army won WWII, but that doesn't fit the jingoistic bollocks.
What a load of bollocks

Three most important things to win wars:-
1. Get there firstest with the mostest(quote) is the tactical key.
2. Logistics wins wars and most professionals focus heavily on that area.
3. Production and the ability to keep the logistics running.

Generally the Germans were good on the first point and lost most of its wars because of the second and third points. In relation to anthems, the wacht am rhein is a better tune, but a national anthem is designed to be simple and for all to sing, making them a kind of flash mob in the sense of emotional drive.
WWI was a war of attrition, we thought we could stand deliberate losses more than Germany. Unsatisfactory end and reparations led to Hitler and WWII.
I just hate nationalism, they can stick the anthems for me.

Germany couldn't feed itself(Logistics) and so you had a declining moral imperative to sustain a war effort. After the defeat of Ludendorfs Offensive the front lines themselves knew the war was unwinnable and if the war had gone on into 1919, the massive American production fully ramped up would have ended Germany and led to its breakup.

As for your hatred of nationalism. Its the thing that sustains people to work together(Social Capital). Without it, will inevitably lead to a decline and fall. So your dislike is exactly the reason why things have turned to s***.
The great British public, as evidenced by the post I referred to. While it was acknowledged at the time, the contribution of the Red Army was massively played down once the Cold War began and the US sank into McCarthyism.
Without the UK/US Logistical Supply. The Eastern Front would have being far more static and allowed the Germans to draw off reserves to face us.
Without the Russians we would have NOT being able to win the war and led inevitably to using the BOMB on Berlin and probably a Ruhr Valley City to end the war and force the surviving German Leadership to come to terms.

Our national anthem is a dirge and there's not much in it to appeal to atheist/republicans!

It doesn't even mention which 'country' (England/GB/UK/Liechtenstein?), the melody is generic and used in other tunes.

At least 'Flower of Scotland', 'La Marseillaise' etc can be belted out even by booze fuelled, tone deaf fans without scaring the horses!

God save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen.

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign.
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen.

If u say so mate
Peter Kuznick, Associate Professor of History at American University: “Throughout most of World War II, the United States and the British were fighting 10 German divisions combined. The Soviets were fighting 200.”

"That is to say, the Soviets fought 20 times more Nazis than the Americans and British combined"

Kuznick further explains that the “destruction of the Soviet Union was the equivalent of the entire United States east of Chicago being wiped out and destroyed.”

Fully 80 per cent of all German soldiers killed in the Second World War died fighting the Soviets, causing even British leader Winston Churchill to remark, "It was the Red Army that tore the guts out of the Wehrmacht."

You would have ben singing it if our english, scottish, welsh and n.ireland lads and yanks hadnt laid down their lives for us.
Stick the square head national anthem right up you.
More volunteered to fight in the British Army against the Nazis from the south than Northern Ireland in WWII. Northern Ireland was exempt from conscription.

Very stirring!
Maybe cos it doesn’t mention the century outdated concept of a monarch

Weird the whole queen fantasy like. An owd bag living in a palace off a combination of money from us and making people who live on her wealth of land pay extra in rent but without the right to buy. Then we sing a song to thank her for stealing from us. People are nuts.
