why are the previous owners part of this discussion..its nowt to do with them....they are brought up by eople for reasons i know nowt about

he said football is a lousy business but sunderland is an exception...
he doesnt refer to football in that sentence as anything other than business..
and he studied sport and business at uni..

So he hasn’t said it? Thought as much.

businesses moving away from bricks and mortar retail and onto online retail is happening the world over..
its something a person of KLDs age would find totally normal...and is thr work of the clubs executive directors, KLD and Davidson..no one else has the authority to do anything

yes he did, but he didnt say who done the asset stripping? was it the BC corporattio and the people from Dell with their loans? Cos KLD wouldnt be stupid enough to call people asset strippers then go into business with them would he?
It was your mates !!!!!

When I worked in retail, it was drummed in that the three most important things were location, location and location. And the location of the club shop is about as bad as it gets. If it was open, say, 6 days a week, then for at least four of them it wouldn't get sufficient footfall to generate takings let alone gross profit) that would cover the wages and overheads for that day. The ground is inconvenient for a casual trip, and the shop is in the least convenient part of the ground. This is the conumdrum/
What happened to it moving to the ticket office and becoming a superstore there?
I was told it was going to happen and then it all seemed to go quiet and nothing else has developed.

A fair point about general retail having "location" as the most important factor.
However many (if not most) grounds are now not located in town/city centres. So football fans usually have to go out of the way to go to their club shop.
But your ground is near a metro station, so it's not really in the middle of nowhere.
It would be interesting to know how the percentage of club shop revenue is split with various clubs. I would imagine most clubs do not get many customers on non-match days ?
Also, with all clubs trying to sell match tickets online, there's less reason to visit the ground and pick up perhaps an impulse purchase of ?
Does anyone on here work at a club shop for another club, as there is lot of visiting supporters of other clubs...

Very true. Are there many football clubs in the middle of a shopping centre? Ours is actually pretty accessible. There’s a few metro stops within 5 mins of it

no i think lots of other clubs have mutiple outlets not just one so theincremental cost of owning one shop is much lower..its called economies of scale..
and without access to the figures for turnover and profits an loss you cant comment on what other owners are doing. The exerts on here tell me KLD is a man who has extensive football experience and knowledge...well...trust his knowledge.
We had at one point shops all over
Metro centre
galleries
Debenhams/bridges
Stadium

Granted you probably don’t know where any of those are but they have all closed, we now have one part time shop. If this is the economies of scale you talk about then it’s not working, otherwise they would be open….

Alas not. It’s gotta be the official minutes signed off by all parties.
At KLD’s first one, I merely posted something about it going well, and another nondescript thing, and I think one the the other fan groups complained. So definitely not.
When they were complaining were they supping an Earl Grey and eating a chocolate digestive whilst taking a selfie with a club official?

How petty. It’s not supposed to be a bloody secret society meeting. Too many egos at play. Let’s just hear the answers to the questions ffs.
No. But it’s certainly got a few frauds like yourself.
You’re not who you say you are, and you’re certainly not a Sunderland fan. So why don’t fuck right off and stop ruining threads.
Someone who spends half his life on here pontificating via purposely misspelled text and causing trouble and strife….who has never seen SAFC play at the SOL. 🤔

It’s such a small thing but actually quite big. We have absolutely no visible presence in and around the city let alone region. First home game of the season and there wasn’t a single retailer selling Sunderland shirts in the city. Darlo and Hartlepool would be beating us on that front.

However you try to dress this up, this is a very poor show from our club ,rather worrying how small time we are becoming

Jobs started and not finished, ticket office and club stores barely open, jobs open but not recruited to, furlough accessed during the summer. I don’t think it’s quite the land of milk and honey some would like to have everyone believe. Nor is what people were posting dancing emojis and (albeit a little tongue in cheek) posting #cans about.

We’ve a hell of a long way to go before we start to look like a proper club again.

Given the current climate I am sure they could probably get a small space in the city center for next to nowt in terms of rent. Would easily make money in the lead up to Xmas, and open the stadium one in match days, assuming they have stock to sell of course.

The current situation is shoddy at best.

Pop up shops in the Bridges or metro centre, the trailers in and around the stadium complex that used to be there on matchdays. Anything. It would just be nice to clearly see that SAFC exists let alone raise revenues.

I agree but this would all hinge on them having stuff to sell. I was looking at the online store and anything I would want is sold out.
