Whispering Bob

He did a great job on Sounds of the Seventies after Johnny Walker passed. Sunday’s edition was very poor. Don’t know who the lad was who presented but he wasn’t up to it.
Said this, to the gaffer.
Great broadcaster Bob. Another big loss to R2 Sunday listening.

Very sad. I've been watching/listening to Bob for his entire career with the BBC. An excellent broadcaster and raconteur too. Saw him just two years ago when he toured with author and custodian of John Lennon's childhood home Colin Hall. The did a really interesting talk on songs that The Beatles gave away to other artists interspersed with anecdotes from when Bob interviewed the four Beatles and George Martin. Afterwards he spent ages chatting to people, lovely fella.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Bob had so much knowledge about music dating back to the 60s. He has some iconic interviews and clips on his website. He was so laid back and cool. Really easy to listen to.
I actually enjoyed his Sounds of the seventies show presentation more than Johnnie's , although both were brilliant and will now be impossible to replace.
Mark Goodier has stood in once or twice I hope he gets to take over SOTS. Keveany is rubbish.

I expect Vernon Kay might take over the Country Show, who knows
(Darius Rucker hasv been presenting it recently)

Bob Harris sadly quite ill. Retired from his show. Didn't realise he was still going.

Old Grey Whistle Test fans will remember him fondly.

I knew he was seriously ill. Sad news.

A good DJ should know music. I remember years ago on the R1 breakfast show, Zoe Ball didn't know who XTC were despite them being her era. Jo Whiley not knowing Captain Beefheart.

OTOH O.J. Borg was quite good on Popmaster TV.
