What's the difference between the two? And is the cut glass "posh" one worth it?
Glencairns and capital share a similar tulip shape which optimises the aroma of the whisky and the height of the bulbs of both is designed to try to prevent your nose from being overwhelmed by the alcohol.

The squat base of the glencairn means that the warmth from your hand can increase the temperature of the whisky in the glass should you have to hold it for a period of time. The stem of the copita prevents that. The stem also means your hand is further away when nosing so is less likely to influence the aroma.

Cut glass has no influence over the whisky, it’s purely an aesthetic choice,
 
Laphroaig. Drank a bottle over three or four consecutive nights just after New Year ; haven't touched a drop since but have a litre bottle in the kitchen, on borrowed time.
Big Peat is a cracking blended number.

It’s like drinking mud.

If I want something milder I drink Glenmorangie.

I’ve had a little journey into single malts and liked quite a few but I’m drawn back to Irish whiskey at the moment.

I’m no expert, far from it, but that muddy yuk was not for me.
 
Visiting Yoichi distillery 8 years after I first visited and the experience has gone way down hill - especially the distillery bar. Previously it had well over 100 single casks you could buy drams from. Now, it’s one single casks and all their mediocre blends. Disappointing.

Visiting Yoichi distillery 8 years after I first visited and the experience has gone way down hill - especially the distillery bar. Previously it had well over 100 single casks you could buy drams from. Now, it’s one single casks and all their mediocre blends. Disappointing.

Do you go to Japan each year, you seem to go quite often 👍
Always avoided Japanese whisky as late enough to the boat that by then prices had by all accounts jumped and quality( affordable stuff) had dropped
 
This is my second trip this year. I went to South Korea and Southern Japan for 4 weeks over Christmas. Back for 5 weeks this trip touring northern Japan. It’s the 11th trip here in total.

I’d ignore the headline Japanese whiskies like Yamazaki, Yoichi, Hakushu etc and focus on very good but less acknowledged distilleries like Saburomaru, Kanosuke, Akkeshi, Mars Komagatake etc

I’d ignore the headline Japanese whiskies like Yamazaki, Yoichi, Hakushu etc and focus on very good but lesser acknowledged distilleries like Suburomaru, Kanosuke, Akashi, Mars Komagatake etc
