Whisky

Just bought a bottle of 12year old Singleton from Tesco reduced from £40.50 to £25.
They charged me full price at the checkout but Customer Service soon put it right! Cheers! 🥃

Was up at Tyndrum yesterday and asked them to show me something completely different. I ask them this every year and they dont disappoint. This year's offering was a North Star bottling:

Just cracked it open now and yep it's different all right. Must have been more Pedro Ximenez in the cask than new spirit as its like drinking turbo Sherry. At £40 a bottle its a steal but probably reflects the fact it's 40.1% and is frankly not for everyone. Personally I think its fantastic. Will pick a few more bottles up for xmas presents on the way home and a few for myself to keep.

Also tried a sample bottle of the Orkney/Highland park exclusive they have. Nice but very unremarkable.

Craig, who manages the whisky shop, is a Middlesbrough fan despite him having a thick Scottish accent. The Tulli looks a little dark for me, it must have been quite a leaky cask to exhibit that low an abv at that age. I'm not sure they have any left but their exclusive Ardbeg Palo Cortado was very palatable.

Yea was Craig who recommended the Tulli. They are all a good bunch in there, very knowledgeable. Wine is my real vice and I only dabble in Whisky but they humour me and ultimately everything they have recommended has been spot on. They are apparently releasing another exclusive tomorrow so will see it it takes my fancy when we wander back over towards home.

Tried it the Glasgow Whisky Festival a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was pretty unremarkable, likewise the Ardnamurchan local barley. But, you do get palate fatigue at these events so probably not the best place to form a firm judgement
Certainly had whisky fatigue the time I went to the Indy festival...some great drams but by the end drinking cask strength stuff( mainly) all night just meant by the end they blended into one 🤷‍♂️

Must go back next year

I find that too much cask strength numbs your gums, then you can't taste fuck all anyway

Went in keel tavern yesterday, decided I'd had enough beer
Whisky Diet coke please ,I know they'll ask what type now so I quickly say any generic stuff Bells ,Grants will do . She looked puzzled and said they're over there if you want to choose one . They were right down other end of bar set back . It was jd and knob creek? Type stuff and I saw Jamesons which I think Is more a straight drink. I said I can't see any ..she said Southern Comfort? I just said vodka and coke instead
No questions asked .
