Whisky

Bloke posted on the Department whisky thread with his bottle he won in MoM Whisky Santa thing…a 26 year old special Talisker bottle.

Web suggests £1500-2000 lucky bastard
Sorry it’s a Lagavulin
Had a ticket on that like, the 12 was meant to be very good from that year so I reckon that one could have been a belter

Finding your way to the accommodation one the other side of Tokyo after a 3.5 hour whisky binge was probably not appreciated by fellow users of the Yamanote train line.

There turned out to be 20 or so more Scottish whisky distilleries at the show than the floor plan indicated.

The pick of the new Japanese distilleries for me was Ikawa. They only had a couple of whiskies that have reached the 3 year mark to qualify as such, but their 50ppm peated bourbon was very fine. A selection of the whiskies I tried at the show, beyond these I didn’t have the wherewithal to take photos.

Needless to say, the Yamazaki & Hakushu bottles were excellent.

Edit: Irritatingly, I seem not to have taken pics of the Ikawa, Kuju or Yamaga I liked the most either!

In was fortunate enough to get an invite to a Blackadder tasting in a bar I frequent when I’m here, hosted by Robin and Michael Tucek, the owners of said company.

I can’t say my heart was really in it after the whisky festival the day before, not aided by listening to the elder Tucek who is an absolute conspiracy nut, but I got through a dozen or so of the BAs on offer and 3 or 4 Chichibu.

A very unusual 17yo Bowmore and an elegant 42yo Tomintoul were the standouts for me.
