What represents success next season?

Forever the pessimist (watching them since 1958 does this to you) but even I would say we have arrived with a mid table finish and a couple of good cup runs.
More than that and my glass would be three quarters full.

Bare minimum - stay up relatively comfortably and put in some decent performances in Europe.

Expected - mid to upper half of league table and latter rounds of Europa League.

Hopeful - Top eight Premier league and a proper go at a trophy.

Herein lies the problem with expectations
People think the following season will automatically be an upgrade on the previous one. Like success is on a linear upward trajectory
Unfortunately historical statistics will tell a different story

40 points will be priority again. Sooner the better then we can focus on the rest.

Survival and knockouts would be a success. Top half and winning the thing would be incredible. I reckon we might do that too.

I predict....a top 6 finish but lose both derby games. They lord it over us until the final league table and we are in Europe again. Actually I feel sick thinking of losing to them so fuck that vision. Two derby wins and a top ten finish with a cup semi-final sounds better.

Stay up comfortably.
Look like we can win the Europa, get to the later rounds.
Keep playing like we did vs Manchester United and Chelsea late in the season.

With the extra games in Europe , I would say success would be to build a stronger squad , stay in Premier (17th upwards), enjoy the cup competitions and try and have a feel good factor around the place.

End of season build again an even stronger squad to really try and kick on with a cup competition.
