Go to the shop in the winter gardens

They sell 'artwork' made from what looks like coal..you can actually buy a piece in the shape of a lump of coal.

There's loads of Sunderland related stuff in there , objects relating to the shipyards and different buildings from the town .you could get a little model of the town bridge or a model ship ..or something about st. Peters / Bede

Anything like that will open up a load of talking points on sunderland
