Track Record of improving players;
Max Gradel, Howson, Bradley Johnson, Becchio, Beckford, Robert Snodgrass, Adam Clayton, Joe Garner, Bailey Wright were all sold for high transfer fees after being on the bench or struggling when Grayson took over their clubs

Track Record of signing good championship players for very small or no fee.
Max Gradel (Leicester reserves in 08/09, scored 20 goals in championship 10/11)
Adam Clayton (Man city reserves in 09/10, played every game for Leeds in 11/12)
Daniel Johnson (signed for Preston from aston villa for 50k in 2014. Has been an integral part of their team in championship in last two seasons)
Tom Barkhuizen (signed on a free from Morecambe in Jan 2017, won championship player of the month and championship goal of the month in March and April 2017)

Won promotion and finished 11th in the championship with the lowest budget/wage bill in the league

It looks like he has a good back up team including scouting.
Can you imagine the uproar on here when / if we sign nobodies like them . " he was a free so he must be shite"

Reality bites. I respect Grayson for having the gumption, respect and self belief in thinking he's up for the challenge. He is not a household name but the doomsayers on here need to accept that the very pursuit of 'the next big name' is the reason we're in this situation in the first place. I read it on another thread and the poster was spot on. Whether it be MON, Advocaat or Moyes - we've recruited on reputation not taking into account that their hunger and heart for the game had all but vanished.

If Grayson thinks he can achieve something here, then good on him. I'll back that over any 'young, aspiring manager' who thinks, 2 jobs into their career, they're too good for Sunderland.

And here to think my reaction yesterday was 'f***ing Simon Grayson'?

Slumped my shoulders and sank back in my seat when I heard it confirmed. Taken a bit of time to look at his record and by accounts of fans of his previous clubs it looks like he's at least one to get the best out of players and has a positive record in the transfer market.

We could have got a lot worse, and he'll be hungry to succeed here seeing it as his big chance. (Rather than the last fella who looked at the club like something that needed to be scraped off his shoe)

Ha'way Simon.

I'm fairly happy. And the only reason was because he shaved that f***ing awful barnet of his. I think he'll do well

Reminds me of Dennis Smith's appointment i think we have the right man for the job. At the very least hell have the players battling for him.

I wanted McInnes first, I understand he would have been a gamble but he seemed to have a bit of fire and was a wildcard.

Grayson is a fine second option. We need to steady the ship, and we need someone who will put an arm round the players and get them on his side.

Regardless he is surely a huge huge improvement over Teflon Davey

I wasn't exactly enamoured by his appointment, but we have had all the big name managers who achieved the total sum of sod all for the club. I liked the way he talked in his interview and he looks like a decent lad.

After all the shite posted by those f***ing mutants on social media today as well....

Fuck it, I'm in! Haway Grayson lad

Happy to say my opinion of him has not changed from the first page of this thread to the last.

Edit - not happy, I wish he'd proved me wrong, but you know what I mean.
