Welcome Simon Grayson

Evening from Sunny Preston. Firstly, I appreciate what a big club Sunderland is so I understand why SG would leave us and he leaves us in a fantastic position with a very talented of youngsters. I wanted to come on and let you know exactly what I think of Grayson.

He took over PNE when we were genuinely looking over our shoulder for League 1 survival. He tool over in January and put any fears to bed early on. The following season we failed in the play offs before promotion the year after. Our first season in the championship was all about stablising the club. Very solid, no frills football but... this season we have played very attacking football, counter attacking with a lot of flair - not exactly the style Grayson is known to play.

Thee best thing about Grayson is the man management. He really gets 110% out of every player and creates a fantastic team ethos.

He can pick a player and rise their stock or at least play a big role in their development - Pickford, Reach, McGeady. Not to mention the freebies Hugill, Robinson, Pearson, Barkhuizen, Woods, Maxwell... all worth a few bob now.

He is loved at Preston and will be a huge loss. I imagine, if given time, he will consolidate you this season, with the aim being promotion next season. He isn't the big name many of you will have wanted but get behind him and he will deliver.

Shame to have lost him at this stage as all Preston fans started to believe it could have been a big season for us.

Just remember you may be a big fish in a small pond in the Championship but attendances and history goes out of the window on matchdays! Plenty of good established teams in this division so to expect an immediate return with your current squad is a bit steep!

Good luck
He'll be a failure then.

Dunno if it's been mentioned, but in his safc.com interview he talks of signings and says "they'll be coming here to get their careers back on track"

Suggests what? Loan players? ageing Roswell types? Mcgeady types?

Lived down Leeds for a decade now, and they all love Grayson still.

Played open, attacking football. Left them in a much better place than when he turned up.

They all seem confident he'll be good for us.

Hope it goes great for a change ...but cant get too excited this year unfortunatly my stots are well and truly kicked in from previous seasons

Simon f***ing Grayson , SACKED by Leeds, SACKED by Huddersfield, his BEST finish in THIS devision is 7th. I think I'll stop there , I'm getting more terrified the more I add.

Mediocrecy at its finest. He won't last 6 months

Chill man

Listen to what previous clubs supporters have to say about him, PNE Hudd and Leeds for example

He'll do okay

Underwhelming, mainly due to the excitement of potential takeover. However, he is saying the right things and could end up being just what we need. Have to get behind him now.

He's our Manager so I will be supporting him. After a 3 year break I had already taken up a season ticket again, along with my six-year daughter, in the family zone last week before the debit cut off. We have to hope that Short DOES financially back his new man at least until he eventually sells. I will be travelling from Gosforth every other Saturday....Friday....Tuesday.... supporting the club I love.

TBH We are not the rosy prospect that we used to be so we cannot be fussy now, we need a manager who understands the rigorous routine of the championship and the fight that is needed to survive it, Grayson is probably that man. Like or lump it, he's our manager, so long as the players he picks demonstrate the fire and pride on wearing a Sunderland shirt he will get my support.

Welcome to the mad house.

Exactly, I said on another thread:

1- he's from Ripon, nearly Co Durham
2- his win % as a manager is over 40%, & that's with teams that even out our lot would call shite
3- " He shags who he wants" song can come out again, but tbf that's 6 or 7 years agan & he's since married the "recipient" ;)

From Bedale actually, as his dad still lives there...

This is literally the worst case scenario for us. ES is done with our club, too greedy and scared off potential investors playing hardball, for something he doesn't seem that bothered about. It's only of interest to him when the money from EPL is pouring in, now SAFC just seems like a chore to him. But the stubborn gunt won't let it go for less than his perceived value.
League 1 here we come!

I'm amazed we've acted this quickly after the takeover fell through, Bain must deserve a bit of credit for having everything lined up.

Hopefully Grayson has enough time, and a bit of money, to sort out a reasonable squad before the first game.

Alternatively...he knows his only chance of getting the money he wants is to take us back up?
