Wearmouth Bridge.

Will never understand people who sympathise with these fools, get up there and drag them down, or let them jump. It simply opens up avenues for other attention seekers to do the same.
Think about this for a second, someone feels that down that they want to kill themselves. Think about that. Imagine yourself, you hate your life and want to end it. And then look at what you posted. If you still think the same way then I haven't even got the words for you

I answered a question why that was offensive. Not sure I can claim to be Cornish but that doesn’t mean the comment was correct. I’m not black or French but using those identities in a negative way isnt the right way

It’s a nationality on the census
Appeasement by soft liberal types working in public sector offices. it’s part of England and has been for f***ing donkeys. Same bollocks spouted by the scouse not English brigade and the frothing Celtic supporters who think they’re Irish in glasgae

If you wanted to you could put ‘hot air balloon’ as your gender on the census, as long as you answered no before it.

Regardless of the ins and out and some pretty crass remarks, maybe its time to have a proper rethink about how bridges and high structures can be protected from folks scaling them either for possible suicides or just people scaling them for other reasons.
Besides the lad no doubt being in a state to scale it, it causes chaos and ties up a lot of resources for long periods of time

There was talk or a suggestion of closing the town bridge to pedestrians when the footbridge was open but the design of the new bridge again was suggested to be a closed structure. It obviously didn’t happen

I always thought there was a barrier fitted round the structure where I've marked to stop people climbing up..sure I've seen this.

I'm sure its not beyond the wit of man to put something in place. We all know it won't stop everyone but it could prevent a few clamouring up if its made a lot more difficult to do so

There was something on there..like a square grate with spikes on the outside.
Gotta make something more effective then, doesnt really matter if it costs 1000s upon 1000s as the alternative is shutting roads and every man and his dog being there from emergency services which will be costing multiple 1000s everytime thats before factoring in calls that they could be attending elsewhere

Not seriously I don't think. Perhaps on here. Because that would be silly.

Always said this . Yes if a person is determined to die they will find a way but why on earth would you make it easy for them . There should be high fences on the bridge to make it harder to jump , to make it easier to stop them or at least give them more thinking time before they do so .

7000+ deaths by suicide annually, 75% male. Folk twisting about being delayed...

...have a close look at yourselves, MH, stress & anxiety creep in no matter who you are or what you do. Nobody should minimise it!

Unfortunately alot of people have no empathy for mental health issues. I have mentioned this in the depression thread but when I told my now ex that I was depressed and had suicidal thoughts she gave meno support at all. The opposite in fact and it was the beginning of the end for our relationship. It felt as though was almost as if she was egging me on to do it by the end and that was somebody who claimed to love me for 20 years. On the flip side I know I won't have been an easy person to love at points in the relationship too.

I hope you've had proper support & treatment now. People don't understand & I count myself as one of those. I've never suffered but folk close to me have. I learnt the hard way which is why I don't like seeing some of the comments on this thread. I'll forgive some of them as they're probably ignorant of the depths & complexities of depression & stress...

At the time of the break up my friends rallied round to help. I'm still struggling but atleast I do have people I can talk to who do care. I'll never understand why my ex took the stance she did so just got to try and move on from that as difficult as it is.

There’s loads of ways to do it if your heart and head is set on it. I’m sure there’s research that has gone on about landmarks and significant structures. I did read something a while back that jumping from height isn’t the most common but you would think it was more common because of the reports

Like I said , if you want to do it , it’s impossible to stop you but we should avoid making it too easy .

Really ? how ? they'll just go somewhere else, the ONLY solution is more funding put into MH, the problem with that is your lot voted to reduce it...

Why are a lot of bridges now built with high fencing . Why do we not sell multiple packets of paracetamol to people etc etc . You have to make it more difficult. If a person in crisis has time to think or time for an intervention, they may not do it .
