We might have lost, but...

That's the most ridiculous logic I've ever heard.

At any one time there are 11 players on the pitch, with possibly another 3 contributing at some point. Are you trying to say it's not possible for any of them to have a good game if we lose the match?

Koné is a prime example from yesterday. He played the majority of the match and when he came off injured we were winning 1-0. Is he supposed to be to blame for us conceding two goals after he came off?

You win games by playing well. You lose games by playing badly. Sorry if I am going too fast for you.

Some of our players had a cracking game.

Steele played a blinder. Some of those shots he stopped! On a few occasions I thought we'd borrowed De Gea or Cortois for the day. Superb performance. Didn't deserve to concede today. For all I've thought he's been shite all season, today he can hold his head high for his performance.

Koné and O'Shea were class. Solid at the back and both getting forward to help the attacks. When Koné had to go off we were far weaker. He's another that's turned my opinion this season. Lots of unfair rumours about him early on when he turned out to be injured but people were saying he was skiving. He was quality today and has looked good since returning from his injuries. O'Shea personally saved us from conceding about 10 goals throughout the match with his interceptions, last ditch tackles and clearances. Quality performance.

Cattermole had another good game. Saved us at the back a few times and was getting into the opposition box to help out with attacks. Played some absolute quality passes and his tackling was superb.

McNair obviously scored the goal but was also always involved throughout. We really need to keep hold of this lad. Exactly what we need.

McGeady and McManaman were always pressing and looking to take players on. Some great running and dribbling from them both, lots of chances created by them and just never stopped.

Matthews looked very good. Some timely challenges to prevent opposition attacks, his long throws are awesome, and seems to have his head screwed on right. Excellent mentality on the lad by the look of him. I'd be looking to keep him for next season if we can.

Asoro looks like he's coming along nicely. Wrongfooted the opposition defence a few times. A bit lightweight still, on one occasion he was waiting for a high ball to land near him when the opposition left-back just stood there and Asoro bounced right off him and out of position for the header. That aside he seems to be making good progress.

Fletcher had a great game too. Looks like he genuinely gives a shit, was putting himself about all over the place and bringing others into play. Was even helping out in defence. Shame he can't get the ball in the net himself but he certainly creates chances for his teammates.

Really f***ing disappointing that we lost when we were winning until so late in the match, but all in all it was an enjoyable match for the most part and we certainly can't say they didn't try.

Straight back up next season, piece of piss. HAWAY THE LADS!!!

Watched a different game mate?

You're aware it's a team game, right? I don't know how to put it into any simpler terms for you as you seem to be struggling with this concept.

Mind, you're praising Kone who wasn't struggling and was repeatedly asking to come off, which cost us the game (He was having a fairly easy afternoon but they brought a couple do big lumps on and it was obvious what they were going to do). Now, call me cynical but I have an inkling he didn't fancy that for the last 10 minutes and was thinking of keeping himself injury free?

Utter nonsense.

I agree with that. But

You have argued that a lot of them had a good game. We lost. At home. To Burton Albion. We got relegated to the third tier

None of it is good enough

That's pure speculation. He'd been solid up to that point in the match and has been playing well for us since getting back up to speed after returning from his injury. I don't believe he'd say "sub me, I don't fancy playing against these big fellers" when he was still the biggest feller on the field. It just doesn't fit with the way he's been playing lately.

Did he look injured to you?

So if we played so well why did O’Shea need to “personally save us from conceding about 10 goals” and Steele was like “De Gea”. Not to mention everyone else seemingly having a great game at home to Burton.

Or maybe, just maybe you posted a load of steaming turd...

Yeah I agree, it's a horrendous result and I'm massively disappointed about it, but up until the very late equaliser we were looking like we were going to win the match.

In my opinion eighty-something minutes of almost all the players playing well shouldn't be brushed under the carpet just because the remaining players on the field failed to hold on to the lead until the end of the match.

A criticism that has been levelled at me recently is that I refuse to criticise any of our players. I'd like to set that straight right now - Billy Jones disappointed me yesterday. I think in the past he's been unfairly criticised a lot and so I've defended him where I saw it differently to others, but yesterday he was gash. On one occasion I remember we had the ball on his touchline (I think it might have been Honeyman on the ball right on the line) and he overlapped on the inside, then when our player with the ball found himself being pressed into trouble, Jones just stayed where he was upfield and made no attempt to either find space to be passed to or to track back to his right-back position to cover in case our other player lost the ball (which he did). I think his head was already out of the club and it meant we were pretty much playing with 10 men.

Also Wilson annoyed me - when he was already on a yellow card and seemed to be trying to get another by pulling shirts etc. Had to be subbed, good decision by Coleman, and Matthews was a class above (which begs the question why didn't he start the match?).

So there you go - I just criticised two players. I don't defend everyone at the club just for the sake of it. :)

It was still Burton Albion at home. Not Real Madrid at the Bernabeu

I know, and like I said it's a massively disappointing result. Still, we almost won, and my original point was that "we might have lost, but..." some of the players still performed well.

Not everyone else. Jones, Wilson and Clarke-Salter were disappointingly bad and I thought Honeyman was a bit less effective than he can be sometimes.
