We are straight into the league phase

I had to google it like as it’s never been of interest until now :lol:

If I’ve got it right then every team plays 8 games - 4 home and 4 away. Every team plays 2 teams from each pot and we won’t meet another English team in the league phase.

Then the knockout round is based on league position after those 8 games. There are 36 teams in the league table.

Teams from 1st to 8th in the league after their 8 games go straight through to the knockouts and teams from 9th - 24th go into a playoff for the knockout stage.

Teams from 9th to 16th get home advantage in the second leg of that playoff.

Teams from 25th - 36th are out of Europe altogether.

After that it’s a bog standard knockout format
 
It’s not the fact we are in it that makes me nervous. It’s probably not even the opposition. Though they are a world away from the Conference League. It’s guessing where in the league we are in level.

I don’t want us to be getting ritually spanked every single game and end up on 0 points. We are no Real Madrid or FC Porto. But I want us to be competitive and win games. Our run in pre season against European teams is tragic. So I’m not confident in that regards. But if we can do as well as we did against Chelsea I would like to think we can do well. Plus we have seen what Aston Villa did. I know they are a lot better than we are. But if they can beat a Europa League team then surely we can.
