TOO many in our squad thought the Blackburn game was going to be easy.....same thing has happened many times this season against sides we shouldbebeating easily e.g. Huddersfield, Rotherham, QPR , Cardiff, Stoke etcetera......we have definitely been more focussed when playing sides around us or pushing for promotion. It's a mental thing imo partly due to the inexperience / lack of football maturity of many in our squad

Watch this from @10 Trenches Deep ... Playing Last Week - The Lesson Dodds won't Learn.

It goes some way to explaining as to why we're so erratic. Given what's covered in the vid, it's no surprise Dodds managed to get it right last night.
 
We are missing strikers, its as simple as that.

Even last season where we all remember it as amazing, there were games where the strikerless wonders formation worked and there were definately plenty where it didnt. At that was with Amad, Clarke and Roberts on full power.

This season we've had completely ineffective strikers, Roberts has been poor, Clarke great then injured, no Amad and pretty much all season long injuries to our best 2 attacking full backs.

Stick a decent striker into 90% of this seasons games and none of this shit would have happened. Its been the root cause of all on field issues.

2 Things cause this, a young team with plenty of ability but incredibly inexperienced and inconsistent. And a manager/head coach that doesn't know how to get the players up for a game properly.

I was saying this last night. It’s not even a 20 goal a year striker I want, just someone to give us a presence up top. Someone we can play off & hold the ball for us.

I’ve defended Jobe all season, but he was weak as piss last night. Rarely looked after the ball. However, that’s not a Jobe problem, it’s a Speakman one.

and an element of on the beach creeping in.

Dodds has been particularly vocal about not letting the players hit the beach in the remaining games.

It’s so obvious yet some refuse to see it as it’s being critical of the club.

They’ve got some signings bang on but this refusal to pay for a competent forward has been so negligent it’s untrue.

I disagree, we could have the best striker in the league but we don't create chances for them, we create chances primarily for the wide forwards. Would it have been better if we had someone to make it stick more often than not, sure, but folk hated Geldhardt when he was decent at just that.

Absolutely this. We’ve been thoroughly impotent this year. If he has LND fit all of last season we would probably have been promoted what with us having Ahmad as well.
 
I'm glad in a way about the Blackburn game because it seems to have given the players some spark just like when we got beat of Boro.

Naa, it's not like.

They're part of the problem, but it's certainly not the be all and end all. Being as vulnerable as we were against Blackburn is nothing to do with strikers.

Agree with most of the rest of the post though.

We seem to look more solid when we play three at the back. Two clean sheets against Leeds. I can't fugure out why we don't do it more regularly or maybe even often.

Agree, If we are wanting promotion there's still an awful lot of upgrades we need to make.

Even if we kept all of our players (which we wont), We need a centre half alongside Ballard, A central midfielder or two as Ekwah is far too inconsistent. If anything happened to Neil we would be knackered. A winger and at least two proper strikers.

Only then would we have any chance of getting out of this league.

That's also on the basis if all players were fit and the players coming in were upragdes on what we have.

That leaves the likes of Huggins, Alese, Roberts, Pembele, O'Nien, Mundle, Aouchiche, Seels and Ekwah making up a very solid squad. All of whom would play their part over a 46 game season.

The likes of Burstow, Dack, Evans, Hjelde, Ba, Hemir etc need to go out on loan or be sold on.
