It's a shit song and no one should be singing those words.

But the message was put out an hour before kick off. I think it's fair to assume most wouldn't have even seen it by that point. I hadn't and I'm never really off social media.
 
absolutely embarrassing it got to the point where the club felt they needed to put out statement from the lad explaining why this is bad and shouldn’t be sung.

beyond shameful anyone thought it’d be a laugh to continue singing it anyway
 
Because it is racist and to be brutally honest a significant amount of Sunderland supporters need educating. This thread shows that.

It's crass, ignorant and embarrassing, and anyone still singing it after the player himself has asked them not to is a moron.

I'm not sure it's 'racist', though. Racism is discrimination against a person based on race. I don't think using a harmless positive stereotype is racism. A racial stereotype is not necessarily a racist one.

It's just stupid and cringeworthy, more than anything else. The defiant response to being asked to refrain is more telling about those singing it, IMO.
