In appearance terms, the open space which next owns isn't particularly bad. Almost like an unintentional public square. The partial demolition of the leisure centre strangely improves the look. They should offer to pave it! The downturn in the retail maybe inhibits next's ambitions, and let's face it the store they had plans for was awful.

The Vaux site is much more important

Good news if that Next store doesn’t go ahead, it looked a right eyesore in the plans and would have wasted a prime spot of land. Plus retail isn’t the way forward for the town centre.
