VARguments

How would a ref looking at a pitch side monitor solve anything? Surely he'll be looking at exactly the same things the people looking at the VAR headquarters would be
Because he gets his look at it and might think no VAR lads you're wrong I'm sticking with my decisions which happens around Europe

The Sheff Utd VAR calls yesterday were just as bad as anything I've seen

I knew this shitstorm was coming. This was a year ago. We're now getting a look at VAR in all it's glory.
It is ruining the game. That Wolves goal should have been lauded throughout the land instead, despite zero protesting from Liverpool it's chalked off. The game as a spectacle is being killed by it.

I could link to my posts from five years ago saying it would be chaos mate ;)

I’d prefer one where the ref can just ask for help if he needs it. Like in rugby. If he’s happy with it then get on with the game.

And the moment he asks for help when a big team gains a advantage you just know what this board will say.

The problem with the old system of just a ref without VAR and now with VAR is that a lot of fans refuse to accept officials are simply trying to get a decision right, nothing more nothing less.

However some fans always looking for a angle to say a team has been screwed over!
Eloquently put. VAR will be the death of football, just as I predicted years ago. It works to a point with stop-start, rule intensive games like cricket and rugby but football isnt like that. When the fuck will people realise there is no such thing as black and white, and shades of grey actually make for better entertainment?

Agree totally, however before VAR lots of fans did not accept them shades of grey, and were always complaining that their team had been screwed over and at times called refs cheats for simply giving what they saw!

Some fans now complaining about VAR were the very ones complaining when it was just down to the ref and are getting exactly what they deserve.

What would he being seeing/missing on the little telly that the lads in the VAR room aren't?

Why not just scrap the offside rule?

It's a negative rule which prevents more goals from being scored. If attacking players were allowed to stand anywhere on the field then the defending team have to decide what to do.

A more open game would result in more goals.

Controversial I know but the offside rule is one of the things that is killing my enjoyment of the game.

Because it would be absolutely f***ing ridiculous mate.

He might have a different opinion to what those fuckards see it seems to work miles better on the continent to the PL why shouldn't the man in the middle have a look

It’s where they roll the play back to that’s inconsistent. See the wolves Liverpool game - why is one called offside 2 passes before a goal but another not called handball 1 pass before a goal. Makes no sense to anyone.

Has there been many VAR decisions that have been incorrect like? The whole thing is a complete disaster but people bleated on about wanting correct decisions at all costs. Well that's what they've got now so happy days.

The amount of times I heard a linesman criticised on this board in the past for giving a tight offside is loads and loads with fans using the term ' he is just guessing' .

Now they have the technology and are not guessing and what happens they still get roundly criticised.

Nobody got a better solution mind, but people just have to twist.

Twist without VAR, twist with VAR.

Yup. People who simply couldn't take it when a decision didn't go there way. Conveniently forgetting all the times we have benefitted from it.

I'm happy to be shown where one was clearly wrong like.
Referees' chief Mike Riley told Premier League clubs on Thursday four more incidents should have been changed.

Plenty more since and more to come they keep on f***ing up

So 4 in 227? Not bad that tbf. Which ones since? The ones people seem to be complaining about are these daft mm offside ones where they are mostly correct but petty as fuck. The very seem ones that people used to complain about when they went against them.

Bollocks, shit loads of goals chalked off haven’t even been contested by the players or manager.
I assume 82 is your birth year? If not I apologise but If so you’ll be a sky generation fan. One who can’t remember the days offsides weren’t really an issue unless they were massively blatant. Sky have made them an issue with their ridiculously OTT analysis which in turn has forced the authorities to bring this shit in. Personally I’d rather scrap var altogether, allow less cameras in the grounds and ban sky from using anything but the replays from the half way line cameras to analyse goals. None of this shit is ever going to happen of course as sky and it’s billions run the show. They don’t care about the fans attending. They’re catering for armchair technology obsessed fans the world over and football is far far worse for it..

Pre sky football. You're on to something. I'll agree with you on that point. The scrutiny in miniscule detail of every decision has brought us here. The demand for getting it right! I still think there would be huge debate and chaos over what constitutes 'obvious'. Can you not see the can of worms that would be opened!
