VAR has ruined top level football.

I wouldn’t argue with anyone who says VAR hasn’t been implemented that well, particularly in this country - the clear and obvious rule is absolute bullshit and clearly there to protect referees, but as a concept there isn’t anything wrong with it all.

Decision making was at the refs discretion. Most of the time they got it right.
VAR simply adds another level of discretion slows up the game, destroys the atmosphere and creates more controversy than we had just with referees.
It’s more controversial as even the most partisan fans know a referee is human and the decisions are immediate.
What’s the excuse for VAR
 
I guess it's just another example of how "technology" has crept into the world. Sadly (and embarrassingly) for me, I had reason to be grateful for VAR decisions that went in favour of my side at Goodison Park (V Nottingham Forest)
I hasten to add, that I'm not a disciple of "video technology" deciding contentious incidents. I can remember when video calls were introduced into cricket here in OZ. Rather than settle matters, it quite often simply let the umpires "go upstairs" as a first resort rather than make a decision themselves. Same story in tennis. I don't want to go back necessarily to the hysterics and histrionics of McEnroe, Connors and others but to my old fashioned way of thinking it's removed that "human factor" from refereeing/Umpiring decisions.

I realise, of course, that others may disagree.

I think handball was simpler years ago.
I was always look at as if it was a goalkeeper. Would you say it was a save if it was a goalkeeper or would you say it just hit him.

I thought both were penalty’s today Notts Forest and Coventrys for what its worth

They refer to it as "soccer" here in Australia (and New Zealand) I remember (with much fondness) looking forward to Crimbo and receiving "Charles Buchan's Soccer Gift Book" from my Auntie Marie and Uncle Chas!

He's not level though.

You can clearly see that his foot is beyond the foot of the defender.

It's offside, proven by the technology.

I understand people being annoyed by VAR when it's inconsistent or seems to be applied incorrectly. But this is no such instance. He's offside. There has to be a point where somebody goes from being onside to offside. If four inches offside isn't enough, where would you draw the line? Should six inches offside be called and four inches offside be allowed?

It's measurable, and he's offside.

DRS works fairly well in cricket though?

It's not perfect but they acknowledge that there is a margin for error in the technology and hence umpires call is used.

Agreed. A silver lining of not being in the PL.

It’s not even consistent. Not across leagues, not even within the same game sometimes.

All about TV and “drama” and eventually time for advertising if they get their way.

I can’t believe anyone is for it to be honest.
 
It’s all a bit wank really.
I like football like I like my women….passion and fury. One minute wanting to ride you like you are a thoroughbred stud in the final furlong, whipping your arse until it’s red raw, leaving you gasping for breath and begging for more. The next minute stamping on your nut sack because you said you thought the news presenter was quite attractive. And when you make up, its back to the races again, whips out.

VAR is the equivalent of a relationship where the highlight of an evening is getting the Wordle answer in three, followed up by date night watching the Great British Bake Off.

It’s hot, curvy, and feisty for me every time.

Yes.

Football is the most popular sport on the planet because of the emotion it brings, why try to change it.

VAR is taking that away because supporters dont know whether to go crazy or not when their team scored.
