It's disappointing and a topic that Oliver Brown covers in The Telegraph far better than I could. It's more than a little lazy to assume criticism of a Muslim cricketer is based solely on his religion and/or skin colour.
His preparation for the test was not that of a professional and his nation could have paid the price. That deserves criticism.

I think there needs to be separation of 2 issues here - no-one is denying that Usman has suffered racist abuse throughout his life. It's a disgusting stain on society that this still happens in 2026.
The 2nd issue is Usman's insistence that the criticism of his preparation/injury in Perth was racially motivated. I believe that to be way off the mark

I'm going to listen to the TMS podcast,I agree it's important to separate the issues.

Usman's an aussie cricketer therefore easy to dislike but some of the posts on here,sadly,reflect the culture of our society

I’m not sure it is. Recall the Raheem Sterling buying his mum a house story, vs that of Foden and Kane.

Again, I don't deny there are some racially motivated stories, but sticking with the topic in question ANY player would have been criticised for doing what Khawaja did.
 
IMO it’s mental that he let his side down in the first test by breaking down on the field after a golf marathon and then turning it into a racism issue because he rightly got taken to task for his preparation.
I have every sympathy with Khawaja for any racism related experiences he has encountered but also his colour shouldn’t exempt him from deserved criticism.

I agree with this. I also think that had Khawaja been averaging 50 for the last couple of years, the issue would have been highlighted less, but he rightly went into this series with huge question marks over his place due to poor form and the golf issue did him no favours from a PR side.

You can’t reasonably downplay someone’s lived experience(s) of racial abuse if you’ve never experienced it.

I don’t recall stopping anyone having an opinion, but if you’re going to come out with utter bilge you should expect to be called out on it. Hence why ‘reasonably’ is in bold.
