University student stabbed

even from the body cam footage, without any prior knowledge or context, it looks initially like the family standing around haven't done a thing wrong. just on split second first impressions, without any background knowledge. amazing how they are just standing calm and sticking to their storey given that they've just stabbed a young lad to death

i'm not trying to excuse the copper, and it may sound like i'm defending him here, but do police not hear that type of thing every day? which clouds their judgement?

i.e they turn up to a crime scene and the person who has been causing the trouble all of a sudden starts acting like the victim? in that split second, they obviously believed the family who had asked for them to come and made the initial allegation. maybe they thought 'aye we've seen this before, the trouble maker acts like he's been attacked' ... and they got it completely wrong

like i say, what a total mess and the police officers have pretty much ruined their own lives, or careers at least, with that split second bad judgement call.
I completely understand the point you are making, I really do, and I'm not saying "call an ambulance" every time someone makes the claim, but his wounds were obviously that bad that just having a look would prove he needed help - do you see what I'm saying?

That's exactly what happened here. You've just tried to flip it round to make it sound like the actual victim was "acting the victim". What a disgrace of a post.

oh aye, in hindsight they should have a had a look immediately. i can see why in the first 60 seconds of their arrival on the scene it may have looked he was playing the funny bugger given how calm the rest of them were. it really didn't look like any of the family had been doing any stabbing, given their body language.

its 1000 peices of information landing at the coppers feet in the first 10 seconds of arrival and they've prioritised those elements of information wrong. why they did that, no one will know.

right wing people will say its because of inherent racism against white people
normal people will say its because they are human and humans make mistakes, in this instance a catastrophic mistake in the heat of the moment

i know, thats the point i'm making. how many times do coppers turn up to a scene to find the guilty person acting the victim? must happen all the time and happened here. thats the point.

but they've applied that logic to a situation where it didn't apply.

both parties are acting the victim, but one party actually called the coppers and are standing around acting calm, they've obviously sub-consciously took their side upon arrival

It'll be the same framework that the CPS use across the board.

That's assuming that the brother (as a minimum) was actually arrested. I'd have to watch what the father was doing again when I get the chance.

In the case of the brother though he could have just said he made the call based on what this brother (the murderer) told him. How do you prove otherwise beyond reasonable doubt? Again, assuming there's an absence of things like text messages etc.
I get that but on the call he said ‘we have been racially attacked ‘
Also at the scene he continues the lie and doesn’t inform police the lad had been stabbed .

A bit harsh - don't think he has. He's saying that it probably happens regularly, which makes it difficult at times for the police to ascertain who is telling the truth.

In this case the police have made an assumption, which has turned out to be incorrect.
I don’t blame the officers, I blame the culture that they’ve been trained in. There is something deeply rotten at the heart of this country. Something fundamentally wrong.

You are right. Growing (obscene) levels of wealth inequality and divisive politics designed to have everyone blaming each other...

The police aren't meant to just turn up and arrest people because someone says someone has been racist. That's the problem.

They get taught to seperate parties and find out what has happened. Not just turn up and go ah shit a brown person has mentioned the R word, that white lad on the floor is guilty he's getting it.

Just accuse someone of racism and the police are so scared they’ll just believe it instantly.

Aye. Send them all down for me.

But for whatever reason there's only the murderer and the mother on a charge.

Yes but in this instance 2 people have tried to claim being the victim.

One said "i've been stabbed" and they replied "I dont think you have though mate"

One said "I've been racially abused" and they replied by cuffing the lad who had been stabbed

They decided that the potential racism was worse than a potential stabbing so began their investigation on that basis. Whether it lasted seconds or minutes it doesn't matter, it's time that the poor kid didn't have.

I have to say full respect to the kids family and especially his dad.
A better man than I would be in that situation and held it together superbly
Absolutely. I’d have lost my shit with the police like. I’d have been calling them every name under the sun when addressing the media.

I understand your perspective, I just don't think the previous poster' post is a disgrace. He's making a valid point.

If the family had called the police and said that the lad had tried to climb through their window ad burgle the house and fell onto the fence. Without any mention of racism. Then proceeded to all lie to the officers. The male officer could very well have acted in the same way and not believed the victim.

Thr coppers have turned up and there's a group of people saying one thing and a lad on the floor saying another.

Can he not just have made a bad error of judgement?

Why does it have to be that he has perceives that potential racism is worse than a potential stabbing? Because quite frankly I find that suggestion absurd.

It's a huge failing and the poor lad has lost his life. But the incident shouldn't be made into another divisive issue IMO.

in slight defence of the police here you have to remember all through the training and education they get racism is the number one crime anyone can carry out , so little wonder they act like they do in this case
