Will he get back in?

Root
Ballance
Stokes
Bairstow
Borthwick
Cook
Bell
KP

the rivals

yes imo.

cook, root, trott, bell, kp/ballance, stokes, prior/bairstow, borthwick/bresnan, broad, anderson, finn/rankin

edit: assuming he returns to 100% mental health and decent nick, may well depend on a succesful return to county cricket.

will be interesting to see what happens re central contract. onions was cut pretty harshly as soon as he was injured, will they be as brutal with trott?

If he gets himself fit then hes worth his place ahead of all of those apart from Cook at his best. KP at his best is clearly first name on the team sheet, but its few and far between that he's at his best and his test days are nearing the end.

I hope Trott gets himself sorted because we need him.

On talent yes, however 32 yrs old, is it worth it?

bell is a much better batsman these days anarl.

Depends how serious his condition is. I bet he isn't having to wait six weeks for an appointment, like the rest of us.

QUestion is will it be viable? Could he stand the rigours of being away from home for long spells? It more or less did for Trescothick's international career. It doesn't sound like he's a well guy.

I wouldn't pick him again. I'd look to find the next possible long-term number three.

Just my opinion like but I think at 32 it's maybe time England cut him loose.

He has got 4-5 years left and a test average of 50. Why the fuck would you give up on a player of his ability so easily?

Because he's don't fuckall this year and I'd be wanting to look to the long-term future. Players generally get worse as they get older and perhaps we're seeing the beginning of the end.

That's before you consider his mental state.

4-5 years is hardly the short term. with root, stokes, possibly bairstow, possibly borthwick, finn etc etc we have plenty of youngsters in the side, a bit of experience is always useful.

not that i'm against cutting him loose, i've never liked him.

True. That's if he has that many more years in him though. Smoker argued he has a Test average of 50, but that's in the past. His average in the home series was 29, well below par for a number 3 Test batsman. So I just feel that I'd like us to look elsewhere.

It's impossible to say just how long he'll have left, but I liken his position to that of Carberry's. Most people think he's too old to have a future with England and being a similar age to Trott I apply the same logic in that instance. Granted, Trott's international pedigree is streets ahead, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

If he's picked in the summer and scores 800 runs against Sri Lanka and India then I'll admit I was wrong.

Cook has done fuck all this year, and captained us to a 5-0 (sic) whitewash but apparently deserves a chance!

He's been great for us and deserves our backing to get himself sorted. 32 is hardly geriatric.
