Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

..because they weren't good enough at the time to be anywhere near the first team squad.
Robertson a bit older and didn't look to be good enough for the first team so was strange to see him move to a team higher up in the league, likely better package financially. Do you not think if Cotcher had stuck around and had another year in the under 18s/21s like Watson did he may have been closer to the 1st team?

Don't think so tbh mate...but, I just find it depressing, we have lost a great talent after only 7 or so appearances ...but, Watson wanted away. Weird.

It was Coventry

Whoever it was - I clearly couldn't remember who. He'd also had a couple of involvements in the build up around then but wasn't functioning as well as he had been. He wasn't playing poorly, he was still contributing but hadn't been as effective as he was earlier in the season.

My point was more than he's came back in a similar vein really - he works hard and contributes but isn't getting among the goals or assists as often as he should, but then he's a kid in what could arguably be his first real full season.

He’s an outstanding talent, don’t blame the lad for wanting to move to a prem club
Not sure anyone is begrudging him a move that he feels will benefit him. It’s the a**hole Harte having a pop at supporters and Watson posting a thank you to the club and supporters when there’s still a bit to play for here. This kind of nonsense can disrupt a club of young players.

From BBC Sport.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris confirms that the Black Cats were keen to keep hold of Brighton-bound Tommy Watson.

His esteemed advisers would of told him to take the cash and he still would be playing at least championship football next season with a loan anyway,

How do you propose we get back there if we sell any prospect at the first opportunity?
Surely we sold watson at the third opportunity though. We turned down a bid in summer 24, January 25 and sold him on the third bid. Brighton didn't go away, he wouldn't sign a new contract and its Stephen fletcher heads gone time etc. SAFC get a lot wrong off the field but I don't think selling watson is an example of that.

There’s some embarrassing post and massive over reaction on here mind.

Watson has never asked to leave however he felt the club massively undervalued him especially how much they’ve bigged him up.

He’s on life changing money at Brighton who had already had 2 bids accepted last summer and January and the club both times stopped the deal at the last minute first time no idea why second time we all know why.

The club haven’t handled it at all well and had the club offered somewhere near what TW was wanting he would’ve signed a new contract.

Can’t blame the lad and wish him all the best.

He hasn’t signed just to be loaned back out and for the under 23’s either, he’ll be on the bench and around the first team squad. Brighton rate him massively.

A lot going on about his recent form he’s just come back from 4 months out where he had a broken bone. It takes a good few weeks to get going again for some players.
I would be amazed if he plays for their first team regularly any time soon.

I don't think it's a great deal actualy. 10m, that's 2002 numbers. Worst thing is, We've lost Clark, Watson and potentially Mundle. That's two players for one position in a season, for 20m. Don't think there won't be bids for Mundle in the Summer.

I'm rather old and and recall such a deal being so public. I just don't like any of it. He's been here since he was 6 years old and fucks off at the 1st oportunity.
