Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

A wish people would F off saying its a great deal cos hes done f all for us. Its about what he could have went on to do, potential. Brighton have been willing to pay 10 mill and other clubs scouts have swarmed round him. We had him in our hands and couldnt or wouldnt see fit to do what it took to develop a home grown talent. I already personally think the club will be fooked in the long run with these owners but the fans acceptance of what goes on is the bigger concern.
Because he didn't want to sign a contract that's it. That's all it comes down to. It happens. Same as us signing jobe from Birmingham for a pittance. He couldn't have gone on to do anything for us as he would have left for free anyway (compensation aside which would be less)

People were already talking about Watson playing like he's away etc. It may be Brighton said they were going to announce it so sunderland got out infront of it. There's plenty of reasons and it all means very llittle. It's a game, and a transaction for a player that has barely played. As long as he puts effort in on the pitch going forwards in the minutes he gets, that's all I care about. It's a game, and there are plenty of other teams that have done this over the years. I really don't get why people need to get so worked up about it

If this is sooooo common, then maybe you can give me examples of when other clubs have made it public Knowledge that they've sold a player in April?

Sounds like your just sticking up for the club, which is your choice at the end of the day, but this little drama could have just been avoided full stop if they'd have just done what every club in footy does and wait until the window opens to make it official. There's going to be a cloud over the lads head now, that really didn't need to be there.

Fair bit of bitterness on here mind. The timing of the announcement is irrelevant if he’s agreed the move. It’s common knowledge we sell to buy so getting £10M now rather than less in the summer is a good deal imo.
As for Tommy himself who could begrudge him a prem move on a lot more money than he’d get here. Have you seen the state of the wages we give our home grown players
Source, please.

He’ll be back on loan in the championship next year, but earning £20k instead of £2k.

Not hard to see why he’s moved, is it?

Hopefully the club can now spend some money tying Dan Neil down and persuading Rigg to stay for another season.

I am resigned to losing Bellingham, if we don’t go up. But we can’t afford to have our entire engine room decimated.

His wages will rocket but he won’t be on £20k a week mind. He's only played 20 games and Brighton are a pretty sensible club.

He wouldn't go on to do anything for us because he was refusing to sign a new contract.

Give over man. Most knew he'd be off in the summer, but theres no reason to come out with it now. Just look at the drama it has caused. Watson won't get a good reception by a lot of fans and there'll be those who think he shouldnt be selected to play at all in case he's just plodding along, knowing that he's off anyway.

They'll be a shit load of players at clubs knowing they'll be playing for another club next season, but that news won't be made official until the summer. Its just another classic blunder by the board to release this now when there's no benefit whatsoever.
Transfers get announced before the end of the season the world over. We’re just not used to teams wanting our players. It’s not that big a deal.

I slag off the club for a lot of things. Most people looking through my post would say I'm negative about them all. It just means nothing when everyone knew it was going to happen. Atleast this way its clarified before constant leaks dripped out is my opinion

I personally think he'll have a much better career than Mundle. We shall see.

He's going to have to take a massive leap in his development over the next couple of years to get to the same level that Mundle is currently at. There's a really big difference as things stand.

Maybe he'll get there, but I'm not sure playing bit-parts at a PL club is the way it'll happen. I suspect he'll be straight back on loan to the Championship next season.

Early days but he's literally had 2 decent games at Championship level in his career to-date. Not sure how anyone can think he's going to pull these rabbits out of the hat based on what we've seen so far.

I genuinely think we need to start covering ourselves with these players, e.g they sign a pro contract, that entails them to a pro contract for however long, but if they play a certain amount of games that it automatically gets extended by so many years.

10 million is chump change nowadays for a exciting English talent, this is a bad deal , put it in context we spent 3.5 on Rusyn
I don't disagree with your point, but I think it's far from guaranteed that he'll make it in the PL, he's miles from being good enough at the minute. He has time on his side obviously, but it could turn out to be a good deal for us.
