Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Mundle is light years ahead of him and only 3 years older.

He won't even be starting games here unless Mundle is unavailable.

£10m for a Championship player who isn't even first choice is a canny bit of business.

Watson is extremely overrated as things stand IMO.

this will be complete “profit” as he’s home grown. I’m not exactly sure how that affects things mind.

As far as I know it means we can spend more but that doesn't mean alot if we're already losing more than the lad wants to cover each year.

Without selling much more and not buying anything, it would be the first year of being near "self sufficient".

If anything now his contract is signed he may be more committed as he doesn't have to worry about injury putting another hold on the move

We don't, he does. I'd be very surprised if he went full tilt before his big move.

He'll go through the same struggles and slump Clarke did and he'll be back in the Championship in a few years trying to get his career back on track.

He's had a couple of good games for us and also alot of below average/invisible ones.

Enjoy the money Tommy , look forward to seeing you on loan at Stoke in 5 year trying to earn a move.

Madness how an 18 year old Sunderland fan can push through a move in the tail end of the season with promotion on the line.

As for the club, announcing it now and inviting negativity is silly, just leave it until the season ends. Between this and the Seelt/Samed shit, seems were bordering on shooting ourselves in the foot...again. Its amazing how quickly stuff like this can snowball.

Anyhooo, in the case we dont go up...atleast it will help us fund new contracts for a few players.

Im not normally one to wish ill on anyone either, but if its true hes pushed for the move, then fuck him.
I think the club are probably trying to head off any negativity if he’s not picked or doesn’t look totally committed.

I’m puzzled by this but I’m more inclined to be disappointed with the lad more than anything.
He’s got great potential but his career has hardly started.
I know money comes into the equation but he’s got all the time in the world for that. He’s playing for his home town club who’ve nurtured him since 6 year old and I would have thought his main motivation at the moment would be to break into the first team rather than go and be a reserve albeit for much more money.
I don’t know whether that twat Harte has been in his ear but I’m just simply pissed off with the lad.

I love Mundle but he isn't 'light years ahead' of Watson like. I personally think Watson will play at a higher level than Mundle eventually.

Hes been absolutely shite and disinterested since he came back anyway.

He doesn't massively improve the 11 and doesn't provide a huge quality upgrade like an amad did. I'd fuck him right off and develop players we actually have and want to be here.
Agree, he hasn't looked right at all since the window shut. People were saying he's just back from injury etc and they're right, but every time he got the ball he seemed to be taking a shot when there were better options, just didn't look arsed.

Very surprised that he'd leave at this stage when he's not ready to be a regular in this league, never mind the league above. Jobe could probably say he's got little left to learn here but Rigg does, and Watson definitely does, but if he's determined to leave there's not much the club can do.

Agree with those saying we shouldn't play him again though. We can't be going into a play off with someone who knows they're gone and wants to avoid injury. The only time I'd give him any minutes is if we have a dead rubber league game and want to protect Mundle.

I won't really criticise the kid, albeit his decision is pretty strange for a supposed fan, given his development also seems to be well served here, but I think time will tell he's been badly advised, but we can't be giving him many minutes other than to rest players who actually want to be here

Mundle wasn’t available for a good chunk of this season.

Had Watson not gotten injured, who knows..but as of now we’re extremely light on the left going into a hugely important set of games.

We’re just seeing out the season atm. It’d allow Mundle to get just the correct number of minutes in. Looks like Enzo will be helping out on the left now.
I am not saying that won't happen as it's up to RLB but from both statements from club and Watson, that doesn't seem the case
