Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I doubt he ever wanted to leave. Same with Clarke. I actually think a lot of footballers are probably quite happy where they are as long as they're playing.

There comes a time though when a club has to at least listen to offers on the table, and when they do that the player himself needs to start weighing things up. And there will be an element of "well if the club's listening to offers then they mustn't really want me" going through the player's mind. They're human beings and they're in a profession where a lot of them want to feel looked after.

Football fans are too cynical, and focus too heavily on the money, because at the end of the day it's often sums most of us could never comprehend earning.

There's no way Tommy Watson walked off the pitch in his last game thinking I'm worth more money than these are offering and I want out.
He is 18......dosnt need to think about major decisons like this.....just fight his place each week and enjoy it , the big money will come soon for him...i jjust cannot understand it

We wouldn’t have received the money up front today

And

We have two loan spaces, but haven’t been linked with any LWs so it surely wouldn’t have enough time.
Nobody knows but it was quoted that we were demanding £9m up front. We haven't been linked with left wingers because we have two on the books injured.

Get the lad fit. A big end to the season incoming.

Get him performing and then sell him or offer him the contract he wants.

We move on.

And Brighton far from the only club to have noticed his talent and potential

As a Championship club can we match PL wage offers - probably not

But not the worst outcome if this falls through, Tommy plays his part in the second half of the season and either we are promoted and he stays on improved terms OR we miss out and he leaves to the highest bidder in the PL

No reason to be panicked into selling now without a replacement - we are not exactly knee deep in fit wingers at the moment
