Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

If he is going. It's not ideal but if the price of keeping Rigg and Jobe (who are much further ahead and with s likely high ceiling than Watson) is Watson being sold. Then it's worth paying, especially if the money is right.

Exactly. And let's be honest, Clarke lost about a year of his career due to it. Maybe two.
If he'd stayed at Leeds he would have likely got to the PL quicker. We know he has the ability (Ipswich was never a good fit imo)
Amazing Watson has got a better move than Clarke though isn’t it

They are just after a profit mate, that is the only way they can survive. They are not a big club. They were in the fa cup final in 1983. That’s it isn’t it?
To their fans they are as important as SAFC is to us. We were last in an FA Cup final in 1992. And last won it 52 years ago.

Sad to say that to anyone under 30-odd in this country we are not a big club too.

We've barely seen him. He's nowhere near Jack Clarke's level right now, and is behind Mundle right now with good reason.
I don't want him to go, but Clarke had way more (and justified) hype around him at Leeds and he ended up in league one with us to get his career back on track.

They are taking a punt on him, if they do buy him there isn't that much to suggest he's going to be a big star.

I also still think this is just an agent playing silly buggers to get a new contract. I just can't imagine what Brighton think they are buying. Sunderland's 3rd best youth prospect?

I don't really believe that this sale will happen. But I do understand why the club would find it hard to resist that sort of money. I do worry that Watson might regret it in a years time if he gets shunted out on loan.
“I see no ships”

Imagine, and for his sakes I hope it doesn’t happen, but he ends up like Stewart at Southampton.

Sometimes you have to strike when the iron’s hot. We did with RS and it paid off for us for once.

Aaron Lennon is another, frightened us shitless one Boxing Day when he played for Leeds, then Spurs came calling.

Thing is, wingers like him, and Watson, rely on pace, I think what even I hadn’t considered was how they have a shorter lifespan at top level unless they can adapt.
I think Watson is way more than just pace, and Brighton are one of the best clubs for spotting talent in the world.

I can’t see why he won’t hold out until the end of the season, could be in with promotion and playing games that get us there rather than going somewhere for reserve team football. We’re only talking a few months difference.
It's February now and the season'll be ower in four months man. I'm not bothered about what he wants, it's what we want.

I was reading a good article a while back about wingers that rely on explosive pace. Once they pass 26yrs they start losing this, and if they can't adapt/haven't got other attributes then their best days are then behind them.

A better club, but Watson is going to the U23 team.
I'm sure they like him a lot but he's nowhere near PL level. If Brighton think he is, them they will get a shock.

It's pretty likely he'll be out on loan next season as well. He's an 18 year old winger with a handful of appearances.
