Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Yeah, exactly, it's a no brainer for me or anyone who has any real ambition. If you get bogged down by wanting to stay local then you won't get far imo.
Brighton buy players, others, like us, develop them, either before they're bought by Brighton or by taking them on loan from Brighton's farm. They've certainly proven adept at identifying players to snap up.

So, if he is making demands like this and stalling on signing a new contract

It's all speculation. A few posters have been talking about top flight wages and it's gone from there to the lad is making demands.

If you look at his reported salary, and the reported salaries of some others in the squad, then he has a very good case for a pay rise. We don't know what he is being offered in any new contract and not signing it now it isn't necessarily an indication that he fancies going elsewhere. He may well be thinking that by waiting, and playing a lot more matches, he'll be in a much better bargaining position when it comes to a new contract and wages. With 18 months left on his contract, he doesn't have to be in a rush to sign a new one.

The only way you'll know what's in his mind is if somebody who knows him comes on here and posts. There's certainly nothing in the public domain to suggest he is making outrageous demands.

yep and that's one of the key reasons to keep him!The metrics must have him becoming a very good player so why sell at the lower end of his value trajectory..it makes little sense unless we need the dosh !

Need to be careful though. Could end up in the reserves for 3 years and shunted out on loan after loan.
We're clearly a great club for developing talent, why roll the dice?
Just get a pay rise now too cover the next 18 months
There's pay rises. And there's pay rises.
The difference in money could be the difference between financially secure and not

Thanks mate. Obviously I work as a journalist so may here stuff myself, as does Brad evidently.

I just hate the idea of WTF being seen as anything but lads and lasses giving an opinion on the match, so like to make sure I make clear definition between the two. Didn't mean to sound spikey!

You do??

You'll fit in at the current day Sunderland Echo judging by the above

On balance of his performances this season, I’d say he is still a bit off being consistent enough to be starting week in week out.

So, if he is making demands like this and stalling on signing a new contract, with PL clubs offering a salary that we are unable to compete with; then surely something around £10m will be very very tempting.
The rumour that he’s demanding to start over Mundle was started by some random lad on twitter, so should be taken with a pinch of salt. Proper ITK’s tend to be journalists or have anonymous social media accounts so that they still get sent info from their source.

So a rumour without any substance that Watson wants the move and is refusing to sign a new contract (has one even been offered?) Is now gospel?
He was only 17 and had barely made a 1st team appearance when he signed his current contract. Since then he's seen many other young players like Rigg and Jobe offered improved contracts and has cemented his own place in the 1st team squad.

I'd say that he's entitled to at least ask the question about improved terms.

Of course he is, who wouldn't but we haven't heard a sniff of him refusing a contract or us even offering one and within 24 hours from a random rumour it's now fact that he wants away and refusing to sign a new contract

All he has to do is look at the bloke he has been groomed to replace. A bloke who was a lot more established and went to a lower placed team btw. The grass isnt always greener as seen above. The fact he's one of ours is whats got people's goat. Chance to live his supposed dream and looks like he wants away at the first chance. Can see why its sticking in peoples throats.

It’s money driven surely which I don’t blame him, but hasn’t been involved in enough games yet for me.
I’ve always promoted his talent and hopefully if he goes he’s loaned back for the remainder of the season as he desperately needs games.

Come on Vauxie the heed of your Coven of coffin dodgers bob the mad has stated Watson is going nowhere this window!
Ah knaar that man, just been WAing with our leader, all I am saying is that that bids went as high as 12 mill, not saying he is gannin anywhere. He's injured anyway.
