Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Any money from Watson will be seen as pure profit under the PSR stuff and helps balance the clubs requirements to stay within bounds, which is why clubs sell their homegrown talent.

It'll be a shame to see him go but they will need to maximise the income.

We''ll know soon enough if he's on his way.
We’ll be well within that with kld at the helm.

I'm sure the Clarke fee would have done that in the summer.

We’re already nowhere near that iirc

In a window where we knew we were short, the manager has been begging for attacking reinforcements and we find ourselves with a fantastic opportunity of getting back to the PL, it will be some kick in the balls to have £10m+ banked and the squad to be more threadbare than it was at the start of the month.

The acquisition of Le Fée and permanent signing of Wilson are great. However……

losing Watson, not having time to reinvest the money and moving down a list of forward targets including Diaz, Cannon, Akpom, Frigan, Guebbels and ending up with a kid from Liverpool no more promising than our own 18 year old (Ogunsuyi) will be massively deflating.

I realise there’s time left but I’ve been here (end of transfer windows) too many times with SAFC to think more positively.

Good post.

I’m trying very hard to remain positive but there’s a growing feeling of deja vu about the last few hours of this window.

I know what you are saying but this will not be how it is perceived by fans. It will appear that we let a tremendous local talent go on the cheap again. The question will be why was it allowed to get to this situation in the first place when we clearly have money in the kitty as the large bids for the likes of Cannon demonstrate?
Money was/is offered. Player wanted/wants the move. It's football, money talks. Big part of the game. End. Move on

Never get the argument for Watson to stay here. If any, other than Southampton or Ipswich as they're coming down, Premier League team offered me a contract I'd be off in a heart beat.

It's a one in life time opportunity and you might never get it again.

Had time to think about this. He'd be mad to move.
Going to get regular games here and likely first choice next season if we don't go up.
He can see other players on the same conveyor belt ahead of him, all looking at massive moves and massive money for sticking here 2 more years.
And he gets to do it for his own team and live at home. And be a local legend for life.

Brighton have shown they can develop players at the top level as well.

Maybe he has bigger dreams.

You can say that with confidence as much as you like, but it's documented that we were willing to buy Cannon permanently.
Loan with obligation.

The only person who said permanent was Alan nixon who then the next day said sheff utd won as they offered to buy now and ours was a loan with obligation.
Did Roma just let us have Le Fee as a charitable donation?
I'm talking to go out and spend the sort of money people are on about for players. Not a loan.

Where do you work out it's unlikely he'll sign a new deal?
Realistically would people have him in ahead of Mundle? I think it’s unlikely he signs a new deal, so if he barely gets a look in the rest of the season his value is only going to drop. Best chance of a decent fee and sell on %
