And me. If Watson was farther down the line in his development, i.e. established first team player looking like he has what it takes to step up, and we looked like we're set for a few more years in this league, then it would be understandable. Not when he's played a handful of matches. The lad's not going to be on the breadline at Sunderland and he has plenty of time to earn lots of money.

By the way, which posters know him? Are they those suggesting the money is too good to turn down for an 18 year old lad?

If we can’t compete with a premier league academy wage for our second in line potentially first choice winger soon then that’s not good enough

Wages double upon promotion to Premier League. IF, he is wanting to go, good luck and crack on, personally I would stay, develop until the end of the season, see where we are, promotion, double ya money. Get a contract or not from the club, I'd wait and see.

I know it's easy to say this but I think I'd stay here and fight for a place in the first XI.
As a club we are looking strong and seem like the perfect club to be at as a young player.

He is a first team player and can help us get promoted to the Premier League.
If we were having a similar season to the one we had last season I would get it!
 
It would be mad if we got more for him than Clarke like.

His situation is a bit like Clarke’s at Leeds when he went to Spurs.

You could say it worked out in the end but it wasn’t ideal.

How will we find out?
Do you think we will actually know if he's pushed for the move or we've just used 'the model' to make a profit?
It might get spun one way or another by twitter nonces but we'll not know exactly what has gone on.

Possibly. Speakman came out and said Clarke wanted to leave and test himself at PL level.

Aye, I'm pretty confident that at 18 years old I'd think I was better off with my family, mates, the area and a club that gives young players a game for a couple of years and then have a think about it. As it stands, he's not going to play in the top flight so what's he going to do.

To be fair to him, if his reported salary and the salaries of other players are correct, then I too would be looking for a pay rise. Not greedy though. Fair for a lad who has broke into the first team and looks like he has a promising future, but yet still 18 and only played a handful of matches. A balance somewhere.
 
I genuinely don’t think I’d take 20m for the lad. I think his ceiling is much higher.

It also means we have to scramble around in the final day of the window trying to get another LW when we already need a RW.

One who can come in and learn the system we play and build those relationship's, we are at the business end of the season and simply cannot be f***ing around chopping and changing. We need to go for automatics.

Or we take the £20 million and get Clarke back on loan......
