Tommy Conway - Mutants

Exactly. Boro have a clear aim to get promoted asap. That’s reflected in their transfer business and the investment in to the squad - an attractive proposition for any capable player with a similar ambition.
Have they had that same aim for the last 7 years?

Boro are actively targeting promotion, we’re actively targeting sustainability.

If you want to hear a positive piece on our transfer business buy this months edition of ‘Sustainability monthly’ magazine, they’ve done a four page spread on what spending nothing gets you.

The frustrating thing is, 4.5m for this lad at 22 year old, if he scores 10 goals and boro finish in the play offs he'll double in value. if he scores 15-20 or they get promoted he probably triples in value or more.

the players we're buying for around 1m don't look like we'd be able to give them away, so which method is better at making a profit?

What if he scores no goals and he's on 25k a week for next 3 years?

We need a striker but he's overpriced for one good season. It's a gamble from boro

Chalk and cheese our approach compared to Boro. They finished strongly in 8th last season and have seriously improved their squad spending over £15m this summer.

We finished horrendously in 16th and have added a couple of free transfers.

Well it's certainly not your stadium, academy, history, fanbase

Well done you won the we've never been in division 2 cup 🤣
I prefer our stadium to yours
Our academy is ranked at Category 1
You have a more illustrious history - but that's exactly what it is - history , it's irrelevant to how a club is performing NOW.
As I've said numerous times , the size of a clubs fan base has no bearing on how 'good' a club is, or how well it's run - a good chunk of 2nd tier clubs have a larger fan base than Bournemouth - but most (if not all) would swap places with them if possible.
We get decent crowds for the size of the town, and how great is your fan base if a good chunk of them bugger off at half time?

When our season ticket holders are bigger than your full attendance I don't think you have any right to comment on fans.

Boro are the epitome of fairweather fans. You only turn up when Gibson gets the cheque book out.

a) who says he's on 25k a week?
b) semedo, rusyn and mayenda were also a gamble. between then they cost about the same but his record in this country (25 in 92) makes him nowhere near the same gamble as the pile of shite we've ended up with.
c) you describe him as overpriced for one good season, but he'd be one of the most experienced signings we'd made in years

If he's a 5m signing he comes with big wages.

Rusyns mayebda and semedos wages put together will be lower than Conways.

He is overpriced. He's had one semi decent season. If we're going to pay a decent chunk of money I'd want someone with a better pedigree.

Smozdics is going for 9m to say Conway isn't overpriced is daft

my memory is awful for details but iirc they were second a few years back and i think we'd just beaten them in january and i honestly thought we could overhaul them for an automatic spot, before stewart got injured.

we've made an absolute pigs ear of this, as evidenced by ipswich showin us how it's meant to be done.

We were handily placed that season and for the want of some shrewd investment in that January window could have been a premier league club now.

if we're calling 4.5m out of our price range we might as well jsut give up.

he's 22 and has 24 goals in 81 games across the last two seasons in the division we're in. i don't think we got as many as that between stewart, simms, gelhardt, semedo, burstow, mayneda and rusyn did we?

rusyn, mayneda and semedo's wages put together probably will be lower than conways. for good reason.

too much to ask apparently.
