Thoughts on last night

I keep seeing unfortunate first goal, fluke first goal, lucky first goal, when is anyone going to call out the total lack of defensive awareness by Hume? He thinks he can simply let the ball go over his head and out of play. That’s not bad luck, it’s rank poor defending!

Alot of this is true but that first half is inexcusable. The coach just stood there and didn't react and the players gave up.
Certainly not meant to excuse it. It was obvious from the stands we had to react by going over their press. Even if the manager didn’t react (which he should have and didn’t) the players have to stand up and use some common sense.

We just kept trying the same thing and playing into their hands. They were excellent in their pressing, absolutely relentless, but we made our own problems.

They did their homework on us very thoroughly. It’s no coincidence that they were getting similar joy to Villa round the back of our fullbacks. What surprised me is how long it took RLB to notice and change it. Every corner was the practically identical.

They often seemed to have all the time in the world in and around our box, yet we can’t seem to find an inch to get a decent shot away

Slow, predictable, shite

A bad performance against Wolves and the knives will be out I fear

Amateur that Roefs didn't go down and give us 2/3 minutes to have a meeting

We made our own problems. Yes everything dropped for them and nothing dropped for us, but it was definitely a case of you make your own luck last night. They were on the end of everything because they wanted it more.

I was raging more after the Villa like, easily. What a sliding doors moment that was for Diarra.

I was in the moment he missed and for a couple of hours after. That moment individually was dreadful and I do believe it’ll ruin his time at Sunderland.

But as a result, yesterday was far worse for me. At home, right in the fight for Europe, and they turned in that performance. Up there with the FA cup replay against Everton for the most disappointment I’ve felt in a team.

Looked like they couldn't be arsed

If we go and lose to wolves then I think he might be on thin ice. Following that we have Man U at home & Everton away, 2 really tough fixtures.

Clearly the club have briefed the press to quash rumour, but any more defensive shockers like we’ve had in the last 2 and they may re-assess.

They lured us in that Sunderland had changed. Same old really

I mean theres no way it isn't a fluke. Jesus wins the header which isn't on target, if flicks off the back of Humes head and loops into the net. There isn't even anyone looking to attack the six yard box for the knockdown either. Scoring without having a shot on target, its very lucky.
