Cattermole did start his Sunderland career well but lost his way for quite some time personally with on field disciplinary problems and off field discipline problems affecting him. This past season, at times, he has looked on top of his game, a true leader and good player. But, at other times, he has been awful along with the majority of players on show. I think he has generally looked good in a very poor team for most of the season but that is relative to overall quality. If Cattermole plays this season as he finished last and cuts out stupid mistakes then he will contribute to The Lads having a good season. But, then again, that could be said of many of the others players on show last season.

Think his time here has also been affected by injuries. Both Bruce and O'Neill rushed him back time and time again and lo and behold, he suffered a recurrence of the same injury.
 
Does anyone remember when he chased sessegnon 50 yards then did the perfect recovery tackle at home against west brom last season? Never seen the SOL erupt like it did over something that wasn't a goal

I can remember similar roars for other challenges by Cattermole and particularly Lorik Cana in the past.
Oh, and an eruption of 'Steeeeeed' for every mesmerizing touch of his of course :). I miss him

My opinion of Lee swings like a pendulum,between thanks for a magnificent performance and despair over another stupidity.

But he remains a better player than Jack (who ain't bad either).

Even though the OP is a bit of an arsewipe troll, there's a wee bit of truth in what he said, I've said it in one thread and I'll repeat it here, let's all hope that Lee and the lads didn't go overboard at the NEPOTY awards last night, otherwise we just might see a very different performance on Wednesday.

The fact is, any player can let Sunderland down however, it is clear that Lee Cattermole goes out of his way to go the extra mile. There is no doubt about his commitment and desire. That, in itself is a plus point, he leaves everything out on the pitch. Plus the fact he has much more ability than people give him credit for.

Very good player and has contributed more than any other in helping us stay in this league. Nothing but positives for me and if he got sent off on Wed, I would think no different.
