He's watching. We're currently going through the concept of changing the ball at a pre-determined point, the fact that you are allowed to tamper with ball in the first place and why this is all so important.

Not happy.

Good stuff, get him taught. If he still can't work it out, show him the Old Trafford test from the 2005 Ashes as an example of why a draw can be so amazingly brilliant and at the same time unutterably terrible.

It's good clean fun.

Now then, new ball due. Here we go.

1st ball. Fuck.

At least they've come out like they want to bat to save a Test, last night was a horror show.

The best thing about this is trying to explain it to Yank.....

You've been playing for three weeks and you're going to try and hang on for another day to get a zero zero draw?

Hopefully.

Crazy game.
It would be even harder to explain why, if England put on an amazing performance and got to within a few runs of winning tonight, they would still have to stop and call it a draw after 5 days.

We've been through that in the last game....

'Wait a second, so they're all just gonna fuck off with an hour still to play? You can do that can you? Just decide it's a draw and go to the bar?'

Yep.

Jeez.

Have you got onto the LBW rule yet?

"So despite the fact that ball was definitely going to hit the stumps, because he grazed his bat so lightly that it needed an infra-red camera to see it, he's not out? But what if he hits the ball then it goes straight onto the stumps?" - that's the one that takes a lot of explaining.

I'm talking about a draw where either team could win if they played 5 more minutes.

It's a work in progress, unfortunately I'm going to have to call it a night.

Two drops in the last over before lunch. Oooof.

Hawk eye said top of off didn't it?
Cant be arsed to rewind it

Yes.

England's session, just.

Hahaha. The poor bastard must have been going out of his mind watching the first 115 mins of that.

What a surprise. Bairstow out playing at one he didn't need to. He doesn't seem to have the temperament for test cricket. It may come with time, but if he buckles in this situation you wouldn't want him having to bat out a session to win the Ashes
