Things you never thought you'd read

See post #3 as the few seats they won't sell at that price if they opened the resale would be offset by the extra they'd get from the many more resold season tickets but at the higher match day prices.

They will sell some as some are 'tourists', some will be vloggers and some maybe presents or gifts for someone on a special day. If people can't sell the STs then those seats will be empty and all those many more supporters would also be spending money.

Regardless you're talking a few grand here, not multi millions and keeping the masses of the fan base happier would also be a huge positive. Instead, we got people who can't get a partial refund and other people who can't get to see the game unless they pay stupid prices.
Doesn't apply to us but I'm sure clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd would get shot of season tickets if they could get away with it. Instead of a season ticket holder paying £40 per match (or whatever it works out as), they could charge £140 for the same seat on a game by game basis to tourists. The tourist will be more likely buy something in the club shop and buy food/drink at the ground too.

I think some of our supporters underestimate the popularity of the Premier League, probably because of the amount of time we've spent out of it. I met a couple of Americans at the Villa game who were doing the usual sight-seeing stuff across the UK but came to Sunderland just to see a PL game. I bet these seats will be snapped up by people like them.

Aye in time if we don't expand and demand is there the we will limit ST sales. Leeds already do it and it's part of the reason why they get £30m in match day even in the Championship compared to our £13m we got last season from more fans.

Aye the Premier League is popular but we don't have as many affluent fans as some areas and if the club want to cater to those and leave the less affluent to watch on TV then they will get a shock if demand drops off. We won't get the same high crowds as we did before as parents have been priced out and won't take kids to get them hooked.

It's a slippery slope and the longer demand exceeds supply the worse it will get, unless of course they extend so they can cater to those willing to spend more but also don't push out the people who will be there no matter what division we're in.

If the Saudis desert the mags and the spending stops and they suffer in the league then the mass exodus will probably be bigger than the Ashley days if they end up bottom half, and more so if ever relegated.

Seen this on a link from another thread and its mental.

£149 for a padded seat on Sunday. A cracking view admittedly but not even any hospitality.

Not something I ever thought i'd see at Sunderland, its only a few blocks over from £34 per game season ticket seats

Keeping the demand for these is going to be really difficult. It seems like they're holding off any resale for season ticket holders until these kind of seats sell aswell.

Pure Greed.

Seems the club are increasingly making decisions that suggest a change in strategy regarding who their current fanbase is, and who they want them to be.

There are some great seats in the West Stand & the club will be looking at ways to generate more revenue from them.

I should've just kept me Grandads hemorrhoid pillow after he died. Living like a king lads!

Haway man, it’s f***ing shite. £149 for a comfy seat a few yards away from seats priced about £40.

It’s not about forcing people to buy them it’s about pricing them so people do/can actually buy them.
If you want to keep on signing these very good players the club are going to have to increase their match day revenue.

That’s what it all boils down to at the top level.

Even if there's 1,000 of those seats that sell per match (there isn't - there probably isn't even a tenth of that) that's only £2,900,000. That's relatively fuck all and nothing to do with signing top level players. It's greed and pricing fans out of the match.

Normalising this sort of shite is exactly why ticket prices are increasing at a ridiculous rate across the country.

The money they will make selling these compared to the extra from reselling season tickets at match day prices must be minimal towards the overall revenue. There will also be more empty seats, less people in the ground potentially spending more money etc.

When things are working so great in some areas of the club, why are things so wrong in other areas?

Trying to milk fans and squeeze everything out of them rather than just making it easier (and more affordable for the masses) isn't the best way to go forward for us. If we have a shit season or 2 and fans who tried to get 'normal' tickets but couldn't may not all suddenly rush back to fill the empty seats of those only there for the good times.

Aye, agreed. I dont think Sunderland is the type of area these seats will sell well in either...even if people have the money.

Tis the way its going unfortunately.

But they aren’t selling though. Be better off having it more reasonably priced and get them sold = increased revenue. It’s a padded seat ffs.
