It is the only version I have heard, but spikes would be usefulHistorically Sunderland was county Durham too
Is this the full version? I remember something about a curse and witches and a dog and a suit of armour covered in spikes

My friend, worm means dragon in Middle English and that's probably what it means here. People have reinterpreted the Lambton creature to what we think of as a worm once the word "worm" stopped meaning dragon which was around the 16th-17th century. There's other European legends where a 'worm' is depicted as a large serpent, such as the Lindworm in Sweden. I think in most tellings of the Lambton Worm it's closer to this.
I thought it was st george and a dragon,Must admit when I first saw it, it took me a moment to click that it was the Lambton Worm.
Love anything local like. Club should start pushing the County Durham thing, especially for the Derby.
Just pleased yesterday we didnt see an "awful story".
My lad went up last night ,met his Mag mates.Fuck them, black and white bastards
Remarkably quiet when we got back to Consett as well![]()
Yes, the Worm has the added bonus of body parts that can be reattached so Lambton slays the bugger in the Wear, in a spiked suit of armour to tears the Worm's flesh, so the river washes away the body parts. He gets this advice from a witch, who says once the worm is slain young Lambton must slay the first living thing he sees. He and the faather concoct a plan to release their favourite hound once the worm is vanquished (why not the least favourite?), but Old Lambton gets so excited when the worm is slain he jumps the gun and rushes to see his son.Historically Sunderland was county Durham too

Next season - yellow with blues shortsA Co Durham flag Tifo followed by a 3rd kit in the colours would be the most epic thing SAFC have ever done
I’m thinking a mining / ship building / football club history one with “a proud city and club which has never sold its soul”
We're absolutely class. You must be logged on to see media items

The club of County Durham. Anyone from County Durham supporting the mags are lower than low. Pariahs.
