The student event on June 8th vs Birmigham

Do you all realise how much money they spent at the game last year?

They're being segregated from the rest of the crowd. If you don't like them, don't sit anywhere near them.

Out of interest, how much?

not bothered me as I can’t attend the games at the moment

Which is fine if that is what the club want to do, but they are deluding themselves if they think this lot are going to become regulars and as highlighted in the e-mail I got from the club last year, they fully accepted they had absolutely no interest in the game, so why they think it will be different this time is beyond me. They were never seen again after the shambles last year. They weren't the slightest bit interested in the game last year.
Just say it for what it is... a money grab because the club are skint, balls to anyone who doesn't like it.

I'd rather the club were just honest with members, instead of saying one thing then doing the complete opposite. They kept this quiet and only within an hour of me contacting the club yesterday have they since put a statement out via an e-mail (why not do it on their official website of twitter?).

With regards to "don't sit anywhere near them" - Probably get away with that more this year but last year the general public were packed in together as half the ground was closed off for them, so we didn't have much choice where to sit despite the plea several times during the game via tannoy to social distance which was not possible and when we asked several times if we could socially distance in the county durham upper which was all empty we were told no.

How much did the club make from them?

Dear Mr and Mrs GMNO1fan

Firstly thank you for your feedback and secondly on behalf of the Club I must apologise unreservedly for your experience at last night’s match.

We made a poor decision to trial a University partnership and totally underestimated their lack of interest in the cricket and very poor end of term behaviour,we failed to steward properly and our communications were poor prior to the game.

All in all a poor night on the field and an even poorer night off the field,as CEO I take full responsibility for the decision making, this will not be repeated, once again many apologies.

Why do you care so much? They are going to be segregated off at a place you know in advance which means you can stay away from them. Even if it gets one of them coming back on a regular or semi-regular basis then that makes it worthwhile surely? The lump sum the club make off the back of them being there for one match is a bonus.

I was at the game last year and while it was busier everywhere else in the ground there were still plenty of empty seats and space to social distance. I got there late and had no problem getting a seat.

It's not what they did last season but the underhand way they did it. If they had have informed regulars of what was happening beforehand then fine and good luck hopefully it makes the club a few quid.
It was just another example of poor PR from the club. The latest being why our 3 England players are not taking part in any T20 matches this week when at some other counties they are.

As you seem to be calling me out over it even though several said you were talking shite last year, I will answer as for why do I care so much?

I'm a Durham member, considerable cost which is my choice. I love the club and pretty much use up 90% of my annual leave following the club home & away, I enjoy it, it's my choice etc etc blah blah. We have got our nephew involved in recent years with the T20 and last year introduced him to the 50 over game. He wants to enjoy himself and have a good night, this game last year he hated every minute of it and was gutted as Stokes was playing and he was excited only to have to experience what he did, feel nervous about the seating hence we decided to leave early (I've never seen so many leaving so early at a Durham T20 game). Also they spent the whole time we were fielding screaming at Stokes and Potts, again you could tell they were pissed off but clearly can't react.

They spoilt the night for many people, people who went to enjoy themselves having been locked away for a long time. They pissed off the stewards who weren't told until they arrived for work & were treated like shit. And as I said on the thread at the time "Yeah the wife on her crutches got pulled up for not wearing her mask the other game, despite clearly for all to see having mobility issues" (external company steward not a Durham steward)- not to mention the stewards marching about telling people not to sit on end row seats at this game and previous games. To then witness what we did that night, sort of made you wonder why all the fuss at previous games about restrictions etc

I did say last year "hopefully the next time the club intend to host a student piss up party, they tell us and I'll not bother going and give my ticket away if necessary" so fair play to the club for making a statement an hour after I contacted them about it. It gives folk plenty warning as to whether they wish to decide to attend, I know many who aren't now and are grateful for the advance warning.

Also a lot of members donated their membership to the club. A comment by another poster on the thread last year "Let’s be clear here, the members donated their membership money last year and they are been treated like second class citizens tonight, for students that just want a piss up and will never be back"

The game was advertised as "sold out" which prevented genuine cricket fans the opportunity of attending, again as some highlighted on the thread a year ago.

"Highlight of the evening all the fit student tottie. Everything else ranging from the seating arrangements to events that took place on the field of play SHITE" - Again not me saying that on the thread last year

"Don’t blame you mate, I feel a bit stupid now having followed all the rules. Putting the mask on while wandering around the ground, staying off the end seats, keeping social distancing etc. Best bit was leaving the stands in the right order. Well won’t be doing any of that again" - Again not me saying that but someone who follows the club home and away at considerable cost.

"it was a bit overkill by the stewarding with regards to the covid restrictions whe you could see the mess at the opposite side of the ground" - again not my comments

"Couldn’t park in usual spot , couldn’t sit in my normal area. Students not wearing face masks. I’m told to wear my face mask!Loyal fans have been treated shabbily tonight…… In defence of the students, they did create a good atmosphere" - again not my comments

"Cricket was bad. The Bullingdon super spreader event was even worse. Wandered round to get a beer from the Moxie truck to find you couldn’t access it as it was reserved for the students. They way it was coordinated I assumed they’d have all had lateral flow tests etc but who knows. I’ll wander round with the mask on outside etc for the greater good but when you see that going on it makes a mockery of it all" - again not my comments

"Club will have made a bit dosh from the game but have scored a massive own goal as far as the goodwill of the loyal members is concerned" - again not me saying that

"Yes, the fact that seating restrictions was only announced hours before the start was very disrespectful to members"

"Sounds like another cock up by D.C.C.C. last night and doing what they do best keeping their few but loyal members in the dark. What a crazy experiment to try during these times and to do it "on the sky" makes it even worse"

Finally the club said it wouldn't happen again.... they clearly lied. I'd rather they were just open and honest in future.

It's not good that your nephew didn't feel comfortable, not good at all but there were plenty of other places to sit in the ground that where nowhere near them?

And the rest of your points are hardly relevant to what is going on this year as they mostly focus on not being told and the inconsistency in applying Covid restrictions, neither of which apply this year.

It's one game. You know where they're sitting and they are segregated so they can't get anywhere else. I really don't see the issue. Just watch the cricket and take no notice of them.

Whatever the downside of this arrangement, I fear the club aren’t in a position financially to turn this business away. They obviously think the measures they have put in place this time will minimise any risk towards regular supporters. We shall see.

Hilarious that they’re treating the students like football fans at an away game.

Bussed in, segregated seating with fenced off area that they have to stay inside of throughout

Worth it just for the meltdown on here tbh, was quality reading last year 😂 wouldn’t worry about it lads, it’s only one game and you can understand why the club want to do it - ££££££

This. Given how shite we seem to be at T20, we’re not filling the ground by playing an exciting and attractive brand of cricket - so we might aswell exploit a few hundred students. Hope they drink themselves into oblivion.
